From the Doom Wiki, John Romero article: -

"John likes listening to heavy metal music. He supplied Bobby Prince a large number of heavy metal records, which was the inspiration for the MIDI rock music used in Doom 1 and Doom 2."

 

Robert 'Bobby' Prince did indeed sample music from Megadeath, Slayer, Metallica etc, but he was a former lawyer so he knew how much he could legally sample, it is a dumb title tbh.. He also had his own moody soundtrack themes he knocked up for both Doom 1 and 2.

I prefer some of Kelly Baileys' classic works for half life, it's a shame some of them didn't make it :(

Not by Kelly Bailey, but by Chris Jensen, they are not played on the steam version of opposing force or blue shift however, unless you have the game CD's or do some tweaking with the sound files...
