I work IT for over 80 medical offices in Maryland/Virginia. My responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshoot computer issues over the phone.
  • Research and develop new technologies.
  • Built and maintain a PBX phone system.
  • Researched, customized, and maintain a PHP-based helpdesk.
  • Manage servers; including building, installing and troubleshooting.
  • Create programs to assist in automation.
  • Manage MySQL, MSSQL, and MSDE databases.
  • Working with Australians on a WAN backup solution.
  • Currently the 'last resort' for technical issues.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot SonicWall firewalls.
  • Over 500 computers are my responsibility.

I work from 7:30am to 5-6pm. Going to ask my boss if I can work from home at the start of next year, as I'm not truly needed in the office. I've been here for over a year and have extensive PHP, C/C++, MySQL skills.

Yeah, it's pretty much 'I work for home or I'm gone.' Unfortunately, for my bosses at least, I'm the only one who can maintain the phone system and helpdesk. If I left, they'd be quite fucked should something go wrong, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't offer my assistance if I am no longer an employee there.

I just got my yearly review done last month and I was less than underwhelmed. The raise was almost insulting. No negativity to my bosses, they are quite amazing to work with and are very generous (helped pay off a $10,000 loan, offered to pay off my car, and possibly a medical bill should my insurance not accept it.) While that may seem a lot, you must understand that I probably work 80 hours a week. I have no family here, my fiance is in another state, 1700 miles away. It's obvious that they come and ask me for help because I really have no other priorities. Also, I'm just barely living check-to-check.

Well, that turned into a random rant... :amuse:

We didn't get raises or bonuses this year. We fired 30% of our work force.

Our company has no excuse not to pay employees what they are worth. We've doubled how many clients we have since I joined and are getting new clients almost weekly. The economy hasn't affected this business at all.

Some of you already knwo that i work at a fishy fishy factory.

I will explain what i do exaclty.

I work at a company named Coppens. What i do there is processing new orders that costumers place and make sure that they get ready in the warehouse. Besides that i help the truckdrivers that come load/unload fishfood/packagingmaterial and other stuff. That is my daily work. I also help others here that need help with a lot of typing and financial stuff. I'm the one who can type the fastest and most accurate in the whole company :p

If there is not much to do at the office, i even help getting the orders ready in the warehouse.

We ship fishfood all over the world. The most orders go to Nigeria at the moment with around 20 containers a week. That is 20 x 25200kg of fishfood that gets shipped off to Nigeria a week.
