In one day, a president cannot do much. He can sign or veto any bills that may be on his desk, but on any given day this probably wouldn't give him a lot of power. He can issue executive orders, they don't mean much because they can be repealed the next day, and besides congress makes the laws.

 

The most power a president could have in only one day on the job would be to issue pardons. I might do that, but I would have to first find somebody I wanted to pardon.
