Same story here, Large amount of players bought game and go online. Servers crash.

That was one of those two times that I saw the servers were down. I was smart enough not to try multiplayer until a few weeks after I got the game though. I knew millions of people would be on crashing the servers for the first day and waited until all the ranks were more spread out.

What was the other one, Halo 3 was the only one i was aware of ...

 

Gears 2 had a botched online, but that was due to Epics coding or something, not server related.

I think in December of the same year Halo 3 came out. It wasn't a set period of outage, but because so many people got new accounts and tried to get on around the holidays, some users were experiencing outages. I was cut out one evening, but I was free to play online ever since.

 

There might a few more smaller instances of outages, but I haven't experienced or been aware of them.

Unless you provide a source, I doubt it because they let the developers choose the servers and not Sony. I heard they might be charging for monthly download packages for PSN, but not anything for online play.
