zombies try to kill humans. Humans run, shoot zombies get somewhere and fight a boss.

You run full speed through unclipped terrain holding off 25 zombies by yourself with all the zombies bhopping toward you, all the while burning every smg rebuy you have trying to perfectly hit every bhopper at the peak of their jumps with perfect spray control and moving never looking forward because you don't have time to you gotta defend. Then you try to coordinate a bunch of baboons that are doorhugging and acting like they are good to actually shoot zombies so you don't have to do 50 % of the defense alone with 30 humans alive. Then you need to tell them ,and repeat several times for the zoned out ones, what the timing is for each hold, how long defenders hold overtime and the defense timings and pathing we are doing after this hold opens, while explaining important bits of the boss mechanics on that map, if no boss then you just make fun of Gibbon and Wesker.

 

Yea it's fun. Has some of the most insane maps you will see in source games in terms of scale and technicality. Boss fights, nuke ability's, items that give you up to 4-5 abilities, and fucking wesker.

It can be just tag if you are playing for example a ZM (Zombie Hold) map. Those are typically very simple, go hide or build up a barricade and hold out until time runs out.

 

When playing a ZE (Zombie Escape) map it can be much more complex. If you check the /nominate command you will see different categories of our maps. When choosing to play a Hard or Expert map you will as a Human need to work together with your team in order to complete the map. Usually these maps will also include items that Humans and Zombies can use in different strategic ways. There also may be a boss at some point that matches the theme of the map. Sometimes the gameplay is serious (the term we use is tryhard) and other times just plain silly.
