A lot of people can't control themselves.

Good luck with whatever decision you make, definitely a mature realization to give up something you love in order to try get ahead in life.

Well if you really want to play games, but still do work, it's all about working at it. Nothing is easy to do at the start. It's better to have some stress release than none. School work can become over whelming and the best thing to do is take a break for a little bit.

So I was thinking, what is the point of video games?

Lucky for you, I am a super (card carrying) genius. I can answer all your questions.

What in this life does it benefit me in the long term?

Most excellent eye-hand coordination. Very usefull for masturbating and watching porn. And by porn, I mean TCP's mom's shower video on youtube.

This is just the internet anyways.

I'm with you, the internet is just a fad.

I look at it now and think of being addicted to video games as the same as getting high.

I'm not seeing the downside here....

I have always never understood the point of drugs or smoking or even drinking.

I just wanted to point out that you said "always never." How in the hell can anything be "always never." Either it is "always," or its "never" dammit. But i degress, the point of drugs and alcohol is to help guys get laid. You start with alcohol to persuade chicks (or dudes, Garfield) to have sex with you. If that doesn't work, drugs will gaurantee that you will give them a night that they will never remember.

I've done many things that I regret just to play video games.

Me too. But I got better.

I look at my sister, she has her life wrapped in school and being successful.

mmmm, forming mental picture of your sister. ahhhhhhh.

She was accepted to this program where the top 342 high school students go that are interested in law.

Now your continued story of your sister is just teasing me....

My sister knows what she will be in the future.

Going to be serious for just this one. I would bet that she will be something unexpectedly different. Out of all my graduating class at Purdue (10,000+) most of us are doing something different then what we planned. Life doesn'e seem to care about your plans. All you can do, is everything you can do. Go Boilermakers!

I'm a little jealous of her and always have seen her as the child who will be rich.

Is she single?

I, on the other hand, am lost and don't know what to do.

Hmm, are you single? Maybe we can start a journey of discovery and wonder together!

I'm just saying my goodbyes now just in case I don't come back. So this maybe farewell SG. I will most likely stay somewhat active on the forums. I will give you my final decision when I get the chance. It has been a good 2 years.

Okay, I lied. I'll be serious twice. Good luck in the future. Video games are not bad, but they can be addicting. I found myself neglecting other aspects of my life too due to video games, but I did learn how ration myself to enjoy this, and all of the other joys that life has to offer. I'm sure that you will discover this too. You have taken the first step to a well balanced life.

It's been nice having you around, and you will always be welcome here.

Good luck with life, the trick to playing video games is to make it a hobbie you do with free time (When you have no work or things going on in life), not a way of life that you need to do. Although like Caution pointed out, some people cant control themselves, so hope to see you back when stuff gets better for you.

Well I'm having some trouble in school for playing so much video games. So I was thinking, what is the point of video games? What in this life does it benefit me in the long term? Been there man. Found out drinking ain't that bad if your with some cool friends and smoking some weed here and there ain't bad either. Might make you hungry but it chills you out. Try to go out and live life a little instead of being addicted to video games all the time. You'll appreciate life a lot more that way.

See ya man. The best way to quit something is to get rid of it.

So if you're serious about this, just downgrade your computer to an average non-gaming comp.
