  1. Veterans Day

I'm not a Vet... I just swore into the Navy on Tuesday.
  2. Veterans Day

I'm just eating my dessert before eating dinner. Edit: It's not like I rushed to get into the military to get free food. But I went to lunch with another future sailor and am going to dinner with my recruiter.
  3. Veterans Day

Yep! Also Applebees! I'll be going there tonight and reap those benefits. Had a free 6 inch at Subway for lunch!
  4. Veterans Day

Just want to take the time to thanks those that serve or have served in the US military. I know we have a few people here at Steamgamers that currently serve or have served. Thank you.
  5. Penn St, "Rapey" Valley?

True, it is 3 of the hardest games on their schedule. vs. Nebraska, @ Ohio State, @ Wisconsin I think they will need to win the first two if they want to win the division.
  6. Penn St, "Rapey" Valley?

Yeah... but there is also the Big Ten Championship game and right now Penn State leads the division, by two games nonetheless.
  7. Penn St, "Rapey" Valley?

Former coach. When he sexually abused the kid in the Penn State locker room, he was no longer on the Penn State coaching staff. About the riots... they will continue throughout the rest of the season. He was and still is loved by the Penn State faithful. They will continue to show there support to JoePa and the mishandling of the entire situation by the Board of Trustees. It doesn't shock me all that much. There is 4 or possibly 5 games left for Penn State and I figured he'd be gone by the time Penn State's bowl game came around.
  8. Penn St, "Rapey" Valley?

I love how the attention should be on the kids who were abused, but all everyone wants to talk about is what Joe Paterno did wrong. Just sad. I think JoePa should have obviously done more... but he did nothing wrong either. A shame that it's going to be this tragedy that ends his legacy.
  9. Honestly, when I wrote that, I thought it seemed off.
  10. Well guys... I am officially a member of the United States Navy. I swore in today as a Hospital Corpsman. Thanks to everyone for the information they gave me, especially Caution. I was eligible for Air Traffic Control, but my uncorrected left eye was a 2400 and the max they take into the program was a 2200. So, I went with my second option. I ship off too boot camp on March 13th and then A-school in San Antonio, Texas follows that!
  11. Started my personal training today using the website: 2011 US Navy Physical Fitness Test Standards Boy am I out of shape. I can only do about 30 pushups without stopping and I need to seriously work on my situps as I can only do about 35 in a minute. Also did a 2.1 mile run today in 18:45... that also needs to improve. Got some work to do.
  12. I'm going to destroy the ASVAB.
  13. Yeah, everything went through fine. I didn't lie on anything. I just filled out everything to the best of my knowledge.
  14. Went through the application process. Took my piss test. I go to MEPS on Monday.
  15. Alright, thanks. Yeah, that's what it is.
  16. No, I was given a packet by my recruiter to fill out. It's about a bunch of background information.
  17. How accurate do you have to fill out this Background Packet... dates wise. It would take forever for me to get all the information its asking. I'll probably just take it into the recruiter tomorrow and ask him what I should do if I don't know it.
  18. I have everything but my college transcripts and hs diploma. E-mailed the university today... I have a hold on my transcripts there because I owe them money still. Not a good situation there. Going to my HS tomorrow morning before I meet with him again and see if I can get a copy of my transcript there and copy of my diploma.
  19. Went to talk with the recruiter today. I'll be doing my application with him tomorrow morning. I did this practice test and did really well on it. Now I have to track down a shit load of information.
  20. I was doing a Business Marketing/Accounting major with a Writing minor.
  21. Thanks guys for the responses. Caution: I don't have vent or steam right now, since I've been using my Dad's labtop. But I may hook up my computer at his house or download it and talk to you. Harp: I'm 26 and I have completed 3 years of college, but no degree. Dropped out as I couldn't afford it anymore and didn't want to owe any more money to student loans.
  22. I am going through a phase in my life right now that is pretty depressing. I left my job at a hotel for a better opportunity, unfortunately, that opportunity didn't work out like I had hoped. I have been searching relentlessly for a job since June. I am now back home living with my father, in massive debt, and have been contemplating my next move. On one hand, I have a possible job opportunity at Oregon State University... the thing is, I'm not sure when it will become available. It was suppose to happen a month ago, but they seem to be taking their time on it. On the other hand, I have been thinking about joining the military. Most likely with the Navy. I have a younger sister who is currently stationed in Bremerton, Washington on the USS Nimitz... I have not discussed this with her yet. I briefly ran it by my Dad and he pretty much told me that you got to do what you gotta do. I know the military has so many great pros to joining it. Decent money, great benefits, travel the world... etc. The only cons I could think of were being away from friends and family, missing out on the things I have gotten so adapted to over my last 9 years living in Corvallis. I know whatever direction I decide to go in, will impact my life in some way, shape, or form. I guess my question do you that have been in the some place I have been in... what made you join the military instead of taking a shit job like fast food? I guess my problem is, I wish the answer would be presented to me on a silver platter... but that's not life. Appreciate any information or suggestions you'd like to share with me. Thanks.
  23. I'm not much of a watcher of the Indy car series, but I do enjoy auto racing. Dan Wheldon was defintely one of the best in the business, sad to see him go at such a young age. But at least he died doing what he loved. RIP.
  24. I watched part 2. Since when is a friend a random person?
