Most people think "alot" is a word.

 

1) It isn't... it's A LOT...

 

2) You shouldn't use "a lot" in normal writing, it is too over used. Consider: a plethora, very much, and many more.

 

Also there's i.e. and e.g.

 

Proper usage of those:

 

I play CS:S i.e. Counter Strike:Source (i.e. means "in other words," implying CS:S is the only abbreviation that means Counter:Strike Source)

 

I play source games e.g. Counter Strike:Source (e.g. means example, implying that CS:S is an EXAMPLE of a source game, but not the only one)

 

THAT drives me nuts, and I learned it on the oatmeal... lol.
