iPod heaphones=mic

orly? I just recently bought an iPod 4G and it came with the default ones without volume control or a microphone.. Hmm..

I am looking at the of the ipod we bought hours ago, and staring at a unused set of apple headphones w/ volume control. You probably bought yours from the ghetto apple store.

 

The earbud doesn't have a microphone in it

You should go get your money back, pretty much all new iPods these days come with them, I bought my iPod touch 3G and it came with them. Hence is why they have an application that allows you to record your voice.

 

Obviously it's not going to be in the ear bud, that would be idiotic.

 

The 3rd generation iPod only comes with the microphone because of the fact it has the voice recording app, but no built-in microphone. There's no point in adding a mic to earbuds with an iPod that can't use it, right? The second gen was incompatible with the app, and the 4th generation comes with a built-in microphone to the iPod itself, so it's unnecessary.

Define "old" iPod. Was it a third gen? Otherwise, if you think about it, there was no point in giving you earbuds with a mic built into it. I also like how you quote something I said when it wasn't even directed towards you. You must really like being an elitist and all.

Apple earbuds only include the microphone when you buy them separately or with the iPod Touch 3G. By default you will receive apple earbuds that have no controls (no volume control or mic).

The earbud doesn't have a microphone in it; the specific earbuds with a volume control contain a microphone in the same area as the pause/play button on the right side..
