In what situations have you been getting it?

Well depends because i'd usually get that Blue screen once a month when playing games, but then again happened 2x today

Sounds like a vid card/mobo issue.

I had something similar with my laptop when playing source based games, had to get a new vid card sent to me (also nvidia).

A couple people needed new motherboards.

Other than that not sure.

update your graphics drivers, but for this specific case, you need to go into the L4D settings as well and disable multi-core rendering. When they threaded this game they didn't test it well or something, and so me, and several other people I know as well as hundreds across the internet have to disable it.

(If it doesn't work you may have to do what my friend does which is more drastic, which is to start L4D, and then minimize the game, and ctrl alt del, right click left4dead.exe -> set affinity -> uncheck CPU 1)

I don't think it's related to the actual game. You did say it blue screen a couple times a month right? Well ironic because the 8400 and 8500 series of the GeForce line up are known to have special "bugs". I remember when I owned one, my computer would lock up in the sight of fire in the source engine. But when I loaded up a backup 8600 GT the fire was no problem.

*EDIT* There's probably a driver update to fix that.
