FPS locks in at 10 randomly.

Normally, I get decent FPS thanks to my 9800 GTX+, but for some odd reason, the FPS locks in at 10 at random points in the middle of the game. Once it gets there, I have to restart the game to fix it.

I've checked fps_max, and several other settings, but they are all normal. I can't imagine why it gets stuck at 10 FPS when I'm not doing anything except playing the game. No solutions found on Google (let alone finding a person with the same problem).

I believe this happens predominantly on Zombie Escape, but it hasn't happened enough for me to notice a pattern.

Some maps have bad choke points, unless it stays that way constantly even after your in a clear area

That's exactly the problem. Once it happens, it stays that way until I restart the game. Also, it is NOT initiated by a low-fps area. Even if nothing is going on at all, it locks in at 10 FPS.

Again, I'm not sure if it happened on other servers (since it hasn't occurred enough for me to notice a pattern), but I am sure it happens mostly on Zombie Escape.

So, some lua virus? I'll double check, since I've had one once before which f***ed up all my binds, although I don't recall joining any suspicious servers.

I lag on Zombie Servers when people throw napalm nades at me :(

Anyway, If you cannot remember it happening on other servers than zombie, then it might not be zombie servers...

Possible Causes:

1.

Hows about if theres another application interfering with the game?

Just for the hell of it, add this to the Launch Options for CSS...

-noforcemparmsThis command will stop windows/apps from interfering with Counter-Strike and using desktop mouse acceleration settings.

2.

Your GPU or CPU could be overheating due to lack of cooling. Check your cooling systems which includes the ventilation of your case, extra fans, or just clean the vents.

You should be able to get applications which monitor system temps for you such as Speedfan or nvmonitor.

3.

If you have SLI, then could it be that something may have been incorrectly configured or somewhat damaged? Try checking your configuration or try using one card for a while, then the other and see if you can notice any difference.

4.

As `Pepper. said, are you running the latest drivers and software?

5.

If your on Windows Vista or 7, try disabling Aero. And see if that helps.

6.

Some game configuration/addons are masshed... deleting the game and re-install?

First off, a quick look through my css folder showed no signs of the files being messed with. None of my binds have been changed. (Unless there is some other folder I'm unaware of where scripts can be stored. I looked in "cstrike".)

@DarkNightz:

1. This might be a problem. I'll use that command and see if it helps. On a side note, I'm also running dual-screens (although while I'm playing there is usually nothing particular happening on the second screen), so I'll disable it and see if that helps as well.

2. I cleaned it recently, and this wouldn't explain how restarting the game makes everything fine again.

3. No SLI.

4. Updated, thanks to Pepper reminding me. =D I have yet to see if this will improve performance or fix the problem.

5. I'll try, but then again it worked fine before. I doubt this is a problem so I'll mess with it later.

6. No recent addons or changes to configuration, besides adding a few buy binds to give me a head start in zombie escape. (I added these after the problem started occurring, so they are not the cause.)

The problem doesn't occur often enough to warrant a reinstall. But if it gets worse, that will definitely be happening.

UPDATE: New drivers caused CSS to crash on startup. Rolled back drivers, works fine again.
