Using Steam Offline

Whenever I try to get Steam Offline to work, it never does. I just get, Cannot connect to Steam network(well duh).

 

I have steam set to where it auto-logs me in, so the password information should be stored on there. Is there a way I can connect to Steam Offline when I don't have internet connection?

 

I really want to play back through Portal.

If you want to start in offline mode, you have to exit steam while you're still connected to the internet. It's gay as hell.

odd. usually when im auto logged in and there no internet it says so and offers me the option to work offline. only problem i have working offline with steam is though, it doesn't let me play any games.

So I'll bridge my connection to my laptop and then exit out of steam and it should work?

As long as you're on the internet when you exit steam. The way steam's offline mode works is, when you exit, it check to make sure steam is up to date. If you exit steam, and it's not able to check, it won't start in offline mode.

what about if you lose internet connection and try and play half-life from a dvd rom and it wont let you play it because it has to be able to update?

I'm able to log in when connected to the internet. Make sure your account credentials are saved on that pc.
