I'm looking into getting a new GPU pretty soon, so which one should I get? Radeon HD5970 or GeForce GTX 480?

For pure performance, I'd get the 5970. But, judging from those reviews in the link you gave us, don't get it from that manufacturer.

 

The GTX 480 is a great card too, though. If it's cheaper and you want to save some money, it will suit your purposes fine.

get the 5970, sicne it's ATI, nVidia card is new, so it might have some bugs in it, also ATI is better, i would go for the 5970 from Saphire or XFX, tho

for the past 3 gfx cards i have had, 7900gt, 8800GTS 512mb and the Gainward 275GTX, ATI has gotten one up now nearly 6 years has past go for the ATI 5970............the only thing is, if you can find one
