MPQC Posted September 20, 2010 Content Count: 2167 Joined: 03/24/08 Status: Offline Share Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) Alright. So my girlfriend is looking for a desktop that can be bought in stores, so it cannot be built, or ordered online. (No newegg! ) So basically she's looking for something that can run new games, doesn't have to be on max setting. Low budget (~300?) Any tips? Whoaaa edit, must be Windows 7. Why? Please state her uses as well, if it's for simple "just checking my email" stuff, then you can probably find a good used computer for that price. If she intends to game or do a lot of advanced stuff, Windows 7 wouldn't run too well I wouldn't think. Link to comment

Your asking price (ESPECIALLY FOR IN STORE) is just too low man, we might be able to bargain bin you a cheap dual-core on newegg if you put it together for that price but what you're asking for is simply not feasible. 1 Link to comment

Ronen Posted September 20, 2010 Content Count: 720 Joined: 03/10/10 Status: Offline Share Posted September 20, 2010 I don't think she will be able to play up to date games with a machine like that. Don't know what the PC requirements for CS:S are but you should look into that and benchmark your product from there... Link to comment
PotshotPolka Posted September 20, 2010 Content Count: 6084 Joined: 03/31/08 Status: Offline Share Posted September 20, 2010 MPQC, NO. Here's the minimum requirements for MW2, which is NOT a hard game to play on most low-tier PC builds. OS: Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 (Windows 95/98/ME/2000 are unsupported) Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor or better supported Memory: 1 GB RAM Graphics: 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT or better or ATI Radeon 1600XT or better DirectX: Microsoft DirectX® 9.0c Hard Drive: 12GB of free hard drive space Sound: 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card Internet: Broadband connection required for Multiplayer Connectivity. Internet Connection required for activation Basically, you'd have to upgrade that PCs RAM, it's CPU just is far too weak, and you'd need to buy a $100 videocard, minimum. The extra RAM and the GPU would probably put you at $450ish. I'm trying to tell you it's not a feasible option, you're better off manning up and building it for her. Link to comment
