Been looking at a new build (not all new) and here's what I've come up with

Intel Core i7 950 3.06Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) Processor - Retail

£215

Lian Li PC-B25FWB Black Midi-Tower Window - Sound Proofed

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Cases/MIDI+Tower/Lian+Li+PC-B25FWB+Black+Midi-Tower+Window+-+Sound+Proofed+?productId=41521

£171

EVGA GeForce GTX 480 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/Nvidia+GTX+400+Series/EVGA+GeForce+GTX+480+1536MB+GDDR5+PCI-Express+Graphics+Card+?productId=41534

£389.99

Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/Intel+Socket+1366/Asus+P6X58D-E+Intel+X58+%28Socket+1366%29+DDR3+PCI-Express+Motherboard+?productId=40209

£155

OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 Low-Voltage Triple Channel (OCZ3G1333LV6GK)

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Memory/DDR3+Tri-Channel+%E2%80%93+1333MHz+%2F+PC3-10666/OCZ+Gold+6GB+%283x2GB%29+DDR3+PC3-10666C9+Low-Voltage+Triple+Channel+%28OCZ3G1333LV6GK%29+?productId=41481

£102

Anything else HD's etc I already have. Can anyone see any potential problems in what I've picked?

I'd go for an ATi HD 5850/5870 as graphic card; its around the same price, maybe even cheaper + better performance. Altho not sure if it would fit with your other products.

You mean the AMD HD 5850/5870 hahahahaha... :(

Last time I checked benchmarks the 480 beat the 5870 by noticeable margins EXCEPT in Crysis but that's only like a 2fps max difference. It really depends on what you'll use it for. A 5850/470 would be good too if you're looking to spend slightly less and sacrifice some extra performance that isn't even vital at this time (you don't really need more than 100 FPS on Shooters and 30 FPS on Strategy Games). Also, you can save some money by switching that 950 with a 930 (I think 920s are the same price as 930s now) and overclock it, I have my i7 930 at about 3.84ghz atm, on air too btw.

It's only really going to be for CS:S/CoD: BO etc

Black Ops seeing as it's Treyarch's game will probably do a few upgrades to the Engine that COD4, WAW then built from, and then MW2. It will probably do fine with even something as cheap as an 8600GT. CS:S is the same story too, if you're packed with a i7 with a decent enough card (doesn't have to be extremely overkill) you'll get constant 100+ fps anyways. As for 'etc' I guess overall getting a 480 would be good to 'future proof' it for like Crysis 2 (which I hear will be heavily optimized), Mass Effect 3 (I hope they fucking put AA support in it this time around), Rage, Brink, BF3 etc.

I would get an i7 920 over the i7 950. They're virtually the same CPU except the 950 has a higher stock clock. A 920 should have no problem overclocking to 3.06 Ghz.

I don't care what AMD calls the Radeons. They will always be known as ATI to me. :)

Well I'd rather build something that will last a few years rather than something that can just about handle what's out there at the moment. If the 920 can do as much as the 950 when OC then I'll switch that.
