Ronen Posted October 26, 2010 Content Count: 720 Joined: 03/10/10 Status: Offline Share Posted October 26, 2010 So I am going to try and build a desktop that I will hopefully buy soon. My budget is about $1500. I am looking for an i7 processor. atleast 4gb of ram. Graphics card ATI 5870+ or GTX 470+ I am going to hopefully be using this on a 1080p 32inch Screen. A decent motherboard been looking at this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131665 A decent CPU Cooler just in case I decide to Overclock. A good case one that may look like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197 and a Tier 1 Power Supply (here's a reference for the power supply I guess http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx) dvd/cd burner Hardrive I should be able to find on my own don't know how much space I want and waiting for SSD price drop. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated =) -Ronen Link to comment

Also, I would also recommend going with the new AMD 6 Core Processor instead of the Intel i7, it just wipes the floor with it, and is around the same price margin. If you are going to go with the new AMD 6 Core, make sure you get a MotherBoard with the AM3 socket! Otherwise it won't fit Link to comment

Otherwise it won't fit AMD are still using the 7 year old K10 architecture and are only good for budget builds also there are only a select few models which would even fall under that category. Tweezy, if you have benchmarks to prove your claim, i would love to see them please. stick to i7 1366 for your budget Link to comment

Intel wipes amd 6 cores even with their "older" i7 technology.. If you want links to bench result it can be provided... Link to comment

They're pricier, but the performance boost does outstrip cost if you're willing to take the hit. Also, same thing Tink said about i7 vs Phenom II x6. I'll throw something together tonight maybe. PotshotPolka Posted October 27, 2010 Content Count: 6084 Joined: 03/31/08 Status: Offline Share Posted October 27, 2010 (edited) First, after having two of them fail on me in a short period of time I no longer buy Seagate. WD is the standard and is the same price. Second, with $1500 I honestly would encourage making a high quality long-term system. Think dual-cards, and if you're up for it, consider water-cooling. I've done everything I can to keep my system air-cooled and I'm still unhappy with the noise/heat. Edited October 27, 2010 by PotshotPolka Link to comment
