I used to love adventure games, so anything by Lucasarts (Sam and Max, MM2: Day of the Tentacle, The Dig, Full Throttle, etc) is golden.

Quake was my first multiplayer game, and it was incredible. It had so many variations online... runes, Q-Ball, CTF, insta-gib matches, and of course the original Team Fortress. I'm surprised Q-Ball hasn't made it to any major modern first person shooter that I know of. The person holding the Q-Ball is limited only to his melee weapon and if he switches he instantly drops the ball. Whoever has the ball scores points for their team over a period of time so in many maps you had an entire team barricading themselves in a part of the level, it was nuts.
