  1. Again you are taking a naive stance on this. Religion isn't a bunch of people "Hoping for the best". Religion is a way people can consolodate their own personal questions about life and what its purpose may entail. You are belittling religion's significance with respect to its relationship to our existence. Note: Do not go down the path of "If God exists, prove it". This isn't a good idea as it leads to the debate that states God's existence can be neither proven nor disproven, this will eventually deteriorate into insults because people try to sway other's opinions to their own. People have their own opinions and one must respect that, but please don't bring up the "proof" word because it will lead to a lot of tension.
  2. Effect is a noun. (Example: "That's the kind of effect alcohol has") Affect is a verb. (Example: "Alcohol affects your judgment")
  3. I'm a Catholic. My intention wasn't to prove religion, but to try and make you understand that it has stemmed from our self-awareness. Science is the study of knowledge, and one can only obtain knowledge from facts, that is why science is heavily reliant on facts. However religion is the belief in something which is greater than oneself and/or exists outside of your reality. In contrast, religion is based upon faith. Faith is when someone believes they know something when there is no evidence or facts to prove against or otherwise. You say you possess no naivety towards religion, but you believe that a statement can be made and it instantly becomes fact if it were religious? As Einstein once said "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind". Your personal experiences with religion are your own, and for arguments sake I'm going to keep my references within generalisability. However, why can you not take religion seriously? Religion is the thought of one's own existence, a greater being than we humans, and our purpose in life. Are they not valid queries to which religion tries to place answers to?
  4. Hypocrisy is when someone says or does something which contradicts their beliefs or values.
  5. lulz Of course religion is based upon faith, that is the entire premise. People tend to believe in a greater being than themselves (a creator) because they have become more open-minded as to whether there is any other form of existence which takes place outside of time and space. Of course, trying to comprehend an existence outside of time and space is near impossible. Let me give you an example. Based on Christianity, God the creator is omnipotent (all-powerful). If this is the case, then he exists outside of time and space. However, there are logic traps which can apply. A logic trap would be "If God is all-powerful, could he create a box too heavy for him to lift?". Now, if God created a box too heavy for him to lift, that would limit his power. If he couldn't create a box too heavy for him to lift, then that would also limit his power. This is where our understanding of existence is flawed and limited. One now has to look beyond what we consider to be the laws of nature and physics and since nobody has ever experienced an existence outside of what is our perception of reality (I assume), then we have nothing to go on but pure faith. This would answer someone else's question about who created God. Since God does not abide by the laws of physics, therefore the theory of general relativity does not apply, meaning that he has no beginning and no end. People (mostly Atheists) tend to brush off religion as some sort of fairy tale, however it is much deeper than that. They think it is all based off some old stories about a guy named Jesus, and nothing more. However, if they were to open their minds to other possibilities, then they would realise it is much deeper than that. The Christian religion is led by the tales of Jesus in the Bible, but human's self-awareness has strengthened Christianity at the foundations through logical reasoning and perfectly acceptable questions. Now, I'm not trying to convert you (or am I...?), but I'm trying to make you see that religion is not purely a "fool's belief". It has stemmed from people attempting to think on a higher level of thought (I don't want to sound narcissistic here), where Atheists refuse any form of existence outside of their own and only believe things based on their experiences (Almost like an empirical standpoint).
  6. Aww, someone is spending today all alone.
  7. Really? Our emotional attachment to things in what we consider to be our reality is down to our innate need to learn. The universe as it is could be described as chaos, and due to our natural need to learn, we as humans have devised what we consider to be the 'Laws' of nature and physics. These laws help bring order to the apparent chaos that we have been thrown into. However, a counter-argument that could be used would be the teleological theory in which it is concluded that there must be a creator down to the very precise 'craftsmanship' we see around us. The human eye, for example, is an immensely complex device. I won't go into details about it, but this complexity makes one think that there must be a creator/designer because such a thing could hardly come about by mistake. Some other examples that relate to the teleological argument could be the orbit of the planets in a galaxy, or Earth's atmosphere in what makes it hospitable for we humans (It is extremely difficult and/or unlikely to replicate Earth's atmosphere so that humans and other animals are able to survive on it). Although I favour the teleological theory, I cannot help but still see its key criticism which is that our concept of order, space and time is open to bias or miscalculation because we are limited by our five-senses and our self-awareness as to how we view the universe, all of which could lead to a misinterpretation. P.S. I like philosophy.
  8. There isn't one.
  9. Speaking of user titles, when the hell do I get rid of "SG Noob"!?
  10. HonoUrable gamer tags should have never been created in the first place, issues such as this could have been avoided. If you ever have some sort of reward on a forum for a post-count, then there will undoubtedly be spammers. People who do get the tag will inflate their ego and behave brashly towards newer members because they gain some sort of 'superiority' over them.
  11. Was ok. What the hell is up with Louis shooting with his ass and WHAT does Francis turn into at the beginning?
  12. Eheh, thinking that having a baby will strengthen a relationship is a common and misinformed judgment. A child will only strengthen a relationship once said relationship has been put on the brink of falling apart. This is because once the couple have gotten past all of the stress that the child has induced, it will strengthen the couple's bond between each other. Psychology, you see. Anyway, this is a sensitive subject. In my own opinion I recommend you have the child after your duty, because there is a fairly low risk of you being killed, and even a lower risk of becoming impotent by someone shooting you in the balls. I wish you all the luck!
  13. You tricked me! You said this would be brief!
  14. :partydance: Happy Birthday! :partydance:

  17. He was a script kiddy. Forget it, move on.
  18. Hehe, nice one. I wish I had a recording of my epic nade rebound on dust2 one time. A guy threw a nade at me from the CT spawn and I was on top around bombsite A, the nade actually bounced off my screen/face and fell back down at him and killed him.
  19. 1/10 Gave me a 1/10 ='(
