Ohh alright! Well, this guy has more lead-style guitar playing, as opposed to some folk guitarists (more pattern-based finger picking). But you can see he still uses his thumb as bass (6th string) and plays the melody with the middle and index finger on the higher strings/notes. I would suggest learning guitar scales, like a blues scale for example, and move on to others; pentatonic, dorian, etc. I started learning finger picking with guys like Leonard Cohen (Suzanne) and Dave Van Ronk (Green Green Rocky Road). I think, after a while, the most important thing is to jam out and have fun, even if it sounds bad.

just try and learn simple rythmic strumming first. tempo is the most important thing if you want to sound good. get a good feel of the guitar and try to play chords before trying to learn fingerpicking. I played guitar for 7 years and I learned fingerpicking in the last year, and I must say, it was kinda like learning guitar for the first time again. Also, do you have any artists in mind? so i can get a better understanding of what style your aiming for.
