well my bro just totaled his car and now, I don't even know if I'm getting a computer. cuz my sis needs a new mac for one of her college classes which is bullshit, I'll have to ask her about that, because when I was trying to build a computer before, she had to get the computer she got now so I can't I went down to a $1000 budget to make it more appealing to the parental units.... Sorry for the small pic.... Just hit full size http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v605/Alex_/?action=view¤t=list.jpg Sorry for using a picture, but I'm just too stressed out right now to edit all of the links and shit, cuz this site only allows 600x600 which I understand, I would make the list public on newegg but I have to wait for it to be approved Yes, I had to go to DDR2 The only thing I dont have on the list is a video card, because im getting a 4670 to hold me over until I can save for a GTX 275 or something It's everything except an OS because my dad has a copy of XP 32, you can install it on more than one pc right?
-
Ok, do you think the OCZ Ram and the Samsung Hard Drive I posted are still good replacements for what you suggested? They are the same thing spec-wise im pretty sure, just wondering what you think about those brands. I know OCZ makes good ram and Samsung is a big name so I don't think they would make bad hard drives. I can't wait till the Solid State Drives get cheaper........
-
Also Shadow I will wait for the Windows 7 Beta, for now I will have to use Windows XP 32 Home because I'm not gonna waste $100-$150 on Vista, Problem is, how can I easily upgrade it to the Windows 7 when it comes out? I suppose I could back up my stuff on an external hard drive or something....
-
Thats what I was thinking too, they looked like they would do better with heat looking at the picture, but that's just me, lol.
-
Just wondering what it the difference between these two DDR3 Ram kits, and which one is better. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10009623&prodlist=celebros http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10010032&prodlist=celebros I was considering getting one of these because all of the cheaper 6GB kits are out of stock, and if anyone can tell me if OCZ makes good ram? EDIT: I guess they are just the same thing, just different shells because they have the same model number.
-
How big do crts get? Most I've seen are only like 14 inch because its standard I guess, if you wanted a bigger one, how much would it cost? Also, Shadow I picked almost identical parts of your build except i changed the RAM to OCZ OCZ3X1600LV6GK 6GB PC3-12800+ (DDR3-1600+) Triple Channel Memory Retail And the Hard Drive to SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD753LJ 750GB SATA 7200 RPM 32MB Buffer Hard Drive Bulk As you can probably tell I was looking on ZZF and also getting the PSU and Motherboard through them ASUS P6T SE Intel X58 Core i7 Extreme/Core i7 Socket 1366 PC3-16000 (DDR3-2000) ATX Motherboard Retail CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W SLI/CrossFire Active Power Supply Retail Altogether I can save like $50 if that matters :/ unless you think Samsung or OCZ sucks. Also I would prob save more if i used ZZF cuz they have free ship so maybe like $75 cheaper. What do you think?
-
Could you show me any good LCDs that you find? I don't really wanna spend more than $200 on a monitor. I would get a CRT, but I would have trouble finding one locally, and paying $50 to ship one isn't cool...
-
Ok, I know you were saying how CRTs can be better, my dad has tons of old ones laying around, problem is, I don't know how good they are or how high the resolutions go, the one I am using right now goes to 1024 x 768 (lol). If I go any higher it says out of range which sucked the first time it happened because I had to manually go in and change the resolution back to default for the game because it just said out of range. They shouild put a 10 second thing to click ok because that was a pain. So I think it is the monitor, but it could also be the limit of my video card (Nvidia 6800 GTX ) Also, I see where you are going with aspect ratio, but I thought max resolution was also important isnt it? Because I see monitors that are 16:10, but the max. resolution is only like 1680 x 1050
-
Alright, lemme know about what monitors you can get. I'm more concerned about max resolution (like how good it looks) rather than size. But I don't really wanna go much lower than 21-21.5 inches, also I'm not sure about getting a wide-screen, they just seem weird to me. For now tho, im logging off, its 3 AM and I need some sleep, I'll check this thread tomorrow, thanks.

Shadow, Newegg also sells the Noctua Heatsink you reccommended, shouldn't I just buy it on Newegg to be easier? Also, what's your opinion on brands of graphics cards, like EVGA, BFG, XFX, Sparkle, like what have you had the best experiences with? I'm getting that XFX one you posted, because it's cheaper than the EVGA one and comes with 2 free games instead of 1. Nice find. And Akaru, the monitor I'm gonna get is (click link) :Acer X233Hbid Black 23" 5ms HDMI Full 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor For $189.99 Also, I'm just gonna go with Windows 7 I was thinking of getting this Vista Home Premium, but it comes with a free coupon to upgrade to Windows 7 Windows Vista 64 bit with free coupon to upgrade to Windows 7 I don't know if I should get that, or just wait till Windows 7 comes out, because I would rather have the Windows 7 disc itself in case I need to re-intstall, because I don't wanna get screwed if the coupon only works once.

Yeah I'm going to be keeping this computer for a long time, so I might as well go new so it lasts. I'm going to overclock when the time comes so thats why I wanted good paste, heatsink, fan, and case. Is that mobo you suggested shadow handle overclocks good and stable? That's all I'm worried about is that I just need this thing to last me as long as possible. I don't think I will be doing SLI because a lot of people say that's its better to just get a better video card. I'll get that soundcard when I get more $$$$, but for now I'll use that money on the network card. Thanks for all of the help guys. I'll go with your suggestions then shadow. So a grain of rice of paste will be enough to completely cover it, but not overflow?
-
Okay, I was just gonna go with a dual core, and use an awesome case (Coolermaster HAF) and a good cpu fan, and just overclock it once I need to.
-
Sorry for posting so late, my internet has been down, sorry. Okay Shadow a couple things first, I didn't pick things that were shiny, I based most of the choices on how good the reviews were, isn't that what I should be doing? Second, I know its newer technology, but is an i7 cpu really gonna be better for gaming? I thought there were even few games out today that can use more than 2 cores let alone 4. Also, I have no experience with this, but I don't think I really will need a sound card, I would rather spend that money on a wireless card and high range antennae to go with it, because for now, yes (q.q) I have to use wireless internet because my mom isn't cool with me putting an ethernet cord through the ceiling. And Akaru, I went with OCZ-COOL paste because a lot of people were saying that it is better than MX-2, but if you say so, I can go with MX-2. I'm not even close to ordering anything yet though just to let you know, but thanks for all of the help.
-
What do you think about the Storm Sniper vs. the HAF? I don't think there are knobs to change the fan speed on the HAF, but couldn't you just get a program for that? Also, what do you think about my build? are there any bad brands that you think I should stay away from? I'm getting everything from newegg?
-
Well I'm typing this post for the second time because the system logged me out because I was inactive for so long because I was typing, and then I lost the post because I had to log back in to post, but then I couldn't get back to my message which is kind of lame, so I guess this time I will copy my post before I submit... I can't post my items on a wishlist because for some reason, newegg doesn't allow combo deals to be put on a wishlist, and half of the things I am getting are combo's so I guess I will just post them. And @ Shadow, I really wanted to get the CoolerMaster Haf932 because of it's awesome air flow, but does Coolermaster make bad PSU's? Because it comes bundled with a Coolermaster 900W PSU and you didn't reccomend them.... Anyways here is what I am getting: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Looking to upgrade my computer
topic replied to Finzz's Kamakazii101 in Tech Talk
Can you buy CRTs online still? -
Whats with the 80gig Hard drive? and is this all off of tigerdirect or newegg? But check this rig from Ibuypower: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227142 The only bad thing is DDR2 RAM and no screen. Theres some more on this page, CORE i7 desktops for like $1500!!! Just scroll down when the page loads: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&Description=GTX&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&Page=1

I'm going to be building a new pc and I am trying to select the best bang/buck parts. And by $1500 I mean THATS IT TOPS! I need like a full list of parts and to like total them up. I need this computer to last me a long time, which means careful selection of parts, because I cannot afford the best. Right now I am really stuck on deciding between a quad core and dual core but I think I am going with dual core (E8500/E8600) because all I will be using this thing for is games and homework no games out there right now, at least the ones I'm looking to play really use all 4 cores, and if they do, its not effective enough and its still cheaper to go dual core. Feel free to argue for quad cores as I haven't fully made up my mind yet. Lots of people say that quad cores (I was looking at the Q9550 by the way) are much easier to overclock when the need comes around. For a motherboard I was thinking of going with an Nvidia bord (790i possibly) because I really wanted the ddr3 ram, but it looks like I might have to go DDR2 if I want to stay in budget. I really love Nvidia's cards, but it looks like I might have to go with ATI's 4800 cards, but if anyone has suggestions for what video card I should get please post. UPDATE Just found a deal http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150323 I think I'll get it, a 9800 GT with 6gb of DDR3 1600HZ Triple channel. I know it's not the best card in the world, but with the RAM is a good deal I think. I'm looking for suggestions on anything I should choose, drives, hdd, power supply, and case etc. etc. So guys please help. A friend suggested getting a Velociraptor HDD because they load things extremely fast, can anyone back this up? Thanks for any help guys! (wow long post)
-
ok, it's in a package tho, cant buy it individually? So should I get the 9600 then or the ATX card you suggested?
-
Correct me if I;m wrong, but isnt the 790i DDR3? and it has the 775 socket doesn't it? Why are you talking about i7? And I havent even seen an i7-975, just the 965, unless it just came out.
-
Ok first of all, I know that card sucks, thats why I said budget. I'm not going to be playing crysis on high settings or anything, I just want to run my games at higher settings and actually be able to play call of duty 4. Guess what I'm running right now? an Nvidia 6800GTX (Yes laugh at me all you want) so for me it's a significant upgrade, I'm not looking to spend $100 here although I do know it would be more beneficial to spend money on a waay better card, I;m just trying to upgrad an old shitty computer so it's a little more playable, once I'm out of the house I'm gonna build my own rig and I most certainly won't use these cards. Back to the OP, nobody really said which card was the best lol but the 9600 for sure needs something higher than a 350 Watt PSU?
-
Dang, so I gotta drop another 50/60 on a psu too, also I was thinking about getting the second one, what made you go with the first one? Unless ur just a DDR2 fan?
-
Ok, how do you figure out what psu you should have? And I just saw that is reccommends a 350 watt heres a pic
-
Needed help deciding between these video cards, I'm on a budget and just wanted to know which would be the best bang/buck. Sorry if this is a retarded question because they are all very similar cards and I don't know much about specs. Also I am wondering if I can even run these cards because my power suply is only 350W :S Thanks to anyone who can help. 1.) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4111742&pagenumber=1&RSort=1&csid=ITD&recordsPerPage=5&body=#ReviewStart 2.) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4486366&CatId=1558 3.) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4035118&CatId=1558
