cj18 Posted April 15, 2010 Content Count: 219 Joined: 07/23/09 Status: Offline Share Posted April 15, 2010 Just got the XP internet security 2010 pop up on my computer spamming me with messages saying I was infected with random viruses making it clear this was the virus not what it was telling me since I've never seen this program before. After awhile of working on find out what it was and how to remove it and somehow after awhile with some problems its all cleared up for now. I would like to know how everyone else would remove it and how to track down the source of the problem since I am still not sure where this even came from. I am normally careful about everything that comes to my computer since I've been through viruses before so now I have everything scanned twice and virus scans once to twice a day, normally just once. Just wanted to ask this though I am still going to ask my teacher when I get to class about this but I like to get the opinion of different people. Link to comment

You can get viruses if you visit other unknown sites. I only surf at this site, fb, hotmail, news site, and another forum. Link to comment

I only surf at this site, fb, hotmail, news site, and another forum. because i never installed it or seen it before and it was spamming me random viruses while it kept telling me to register for the program so I looked into it and found out it was a malware virus looking for me to give it some information. http://deletemalware.blogspot.com/2010/01/how-to-remove-xp-internet-security-2010.html Link to comment
Daze Posted April 15, 2010 Content Count: 6741 Joined: 06/10/08 Status: Offline Share Posted April 15, 2010 I had a family friend bring a laptop to me not last week which was infected with Malware (they had limewire, etc installed). Basically the program stopped me from doing basically anything (it came up with the excuse that it wouldn't open because it was a virus, stuff like control panel and task manager). It was so badly infected that I just had to wipe it clean with a fresh install which didn't take long. Every virus is essentially a program, an executable file. It should be installed under Programs in control panel. If you can still do stuff on your pc (I presume you can as have been able to write this message) then download malwarebytes (use the free version) D 1 Link to comment

That is probably the greatest peice of software when it comes to fighting malware, and it is free too. Link to comment

Itch Posted April 15, 2010 Content Count: 3440 Joined: 12/12/07 Status: Offline Share Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) As far as where it came from.. I have seen legitimate sites spreading this and it's variants through infected flash banners. It is usually advertisements that are on the site that are obtained through a 3rd party company. Comcast's website was a major culprit about 2 months ago. (Comcast is a cable TV/ISP company). It's pretty widespread. Removal: In safe mode w/networking enabled. Download malwarebytes, rkill, and combofix. Run rkill to make sure any processes that might be running & could prevent you from cleaning infected files. Then run a full scan and clean using malwarebytes. Then run Combofix. I've yet to run into a variant of the AV 2010 or Sec 2010 malware/virus that this combination has been unable to clean. 1 Edited April 15, 2010 by Itch Link to comment

Labarr Posted April 15, 2010 Content Count: 3052 Joined: 08/30/09 Status: Offline Share Posted April 15, 2010 For past experiences this worked for me: Download: Spybot Search and Destroy, SuperAntiSpyware, and Malwarebits. Have those run a FULL scan and see what you get. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU RUN THESE PROGRAMS AS AN ADMINISTRATOR. Or else it wont work properly. Good luck Link to comment
Neji Posted April 15, 2010 Content Count: 3341 Joined: 02/28/09 Status: Offline Share Posted April 15, 2010 Download SUPERantispywereor Malware byte's. Delete everything. If you still have some problems, you might have to download Combo fix, and post the logs on this forum, decribe what's going on and you'll be fine. P.S: I can check your logs but I'm not a professional so I might mess up with something. And Combofix is a strong tool, if you mess up once, it might screw your whole system up. Link to comment
