Terrible lag

I'm having terrible lag in game (Css Worst ,Css:beta and l4d2 not so bad.), When I run alone in game, its not lagging, but when there is alot people and shooting going on, like man times on escape, my game seems like its on bullet time really slow, audio is lagging and grainy.

 

Problem is, this is not network lag, I tried on server where I had 50 ping and I had same problem. I even tried single player against bots, that was lagging too.

This started today.

 

So I was wondering, what is the problem all of sudden. Can it be that I have old drivers or something? since I don't even know what drivers are I haven't downloaded any. Or is something finally broken in my computer?

I would recommend doing a virus scan and making sure you computer hasn't started running something in the background. Also, what exactly are the specs of your computer?

are you running an ati card or nvidia?

when i first played splintercell conviction with outdated drivers i would lag when a lot of people were shooting and i updated the drive to CCC 10.4 and had no more lag

Specs of computer, I will tell you what drivers to get, that is a big possibility.

It could be possible your computer is overheating, which would explain why this is happening suddenly.

 

Dust out the inside of your computer if you haven't in a while. (Dusting it can't really do any harm.)

 

To get drivers, just go to the website of your video card manufacturer, and a drivers/downloads link should be somewhere on their front page. Then, just find your own series/card and download the appropriate drivers.

 

However, do post what video card you have (and other specs), since some nVidia drivers don't work with CSS (for whatever reason).

Update your drivers and just lower some video settings for CS:S.

watch the choke number if it shoots to above 10 anytime other then round starts in cs:S or any valve engine then you have a problem with your vid card settings or the performance of your vid card.

 

if you are getting choke drop your visual effects down one notch and try again. this is something you can see very blatantly if people throw alot of HE grenades or flash nades. also make sure your rates are correct

Ok, and what operating system is it? And have you done any other upgrades?

I haven't done any upgrades, what is operating system? ?Vista?

 

 

In game I get 10 fps when others are around and about 60 wehn i'm alone, choke jumps from 10 to 50, (10 alone, 50 when ppl around and shooting.)
