So I'm getting a laptop for college. It would be used mainly for school work. I might use it for gaming occasionally, but I don't need some top of the line super gaming laptop.

I really don't know the price range for laptops. Any suggestions?

Anything with 2GB+ RAM, dual core processor, 250+ HD space and for graphics, just compare benchmarks online, it's best you try and get a dedicated rather than integrated card if you're serious about getting a good gaming experience out of it.

Otherwise, you can get really cheap laptops for what I just said with integrated graphics cards and for college work, there's no point spending too much on it.

It's not going to be gaming since I'm going to take my desktop there. It just would be nice if it could run a couple games without melting.

I would like to know the price range for a decent laptop and maybe some suggestions and links.

p.s. If you're thinking about a mac, please get out of this thread

What kind of programs are you planning to be running for school on the laptop?

Are you truly planning to game on the laptop, or would you sacrifice being able to game easily, for the advantage of a longer battery life?

Also need to know your price-range, what are you planning to shell out on this?

If you are not running anything that is Windows-Only (such as Steam (at the moment, at least! :d)), then you could probably get a netbook, and install a light flavor of GNU/Linux onto it. My old laptop I can get easily 7 hours of battery while doing normal non-gaming work on it (such as typing, browsing, etc).

As I said, need to know more info about your uses!

I guess my price range is around $1000, preferably less. It doesn't have to be for gaming (it would be nice though). I would like a longer battery life over performance

I found this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114803

but this is actually a better gaming computer than my desktop lol

Well if you want battery life instead of performance, get a nice cheap Asus EeePC, or any netbook. Won't run Crysis at all, but it has a lot better battery life than most.
