kabLe Posted June 8, 2010 Content Count: 2206 Joined: 08/30/09 Status: Offline Share Posted June 8, 2010 A while back I upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate. It came with a nice little driver update for my video card which is a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT(shit ik). I updated the driver but I was no longer able to access it's control panel. Now I gather around 40-50 choke for no reason. Probably because its focusing on Quality rather than Performance the way I like it but since I have no access to the CP I can't change it. That's one problem. My second one is that with this upgrade to Vista, my game now freezes on me randomly. What happens during this freeze period is that the models on my screen go all haywire, Sometimes I cannot see my gun or the player models, a field of black will appear somewhere on my screen, and the sound just goes on a loop. The solutions I have come up with is wait for the freeze session to stop where as if I do this then the problems stated above arise, or I alt-tab out. Alt-tabbing out works a lot but it's very annoying have to alt-tab out 6-7 times a minute.. If anyone knows how I can fix this problem please tell me Also, I have tried support from NVIDIA and received none. If I cannot fix this problem it will most likely end my days of gaming until I can get enough money for a new one :'( HELP! Link to comment

Can I just remove the older versions and then restart and dl off of nvidia? EDIT: Nvidia says I have the latest drivers. When I go into the NVIDIA folder I found an application that installs the NVIDIA Control Panel. How ever it says "Setup failed to read the required Display Driver to be used with this package." I have no clue what that means but if you do please post a solution to this. Also where can I find the Aero Interface? Edited June 8, 2010 by Fuze Link to comment
Jager Posted June 8, 2010 Content Count: 1300 Joined: 06/24/07 Status: Offline Share Posted June 8, 2010 ok in your pc uninstall all your nvidia drivers, and restart your PC, then go to the nvidia website and say you have a 6600gt and download what it tells you. then try installing that and report back. I'm not sure if my game freezing will continue to happen at this point. I'll have to test it out. Before that can u direct me to where I can disable the Aero Interface thing? Link to comment

Coffee Crisp Posted June 9, 2010 Content Count: 4960 Joined: 06/20/07 Status: Offline Share Posted June 9, 2010 My best guess is that your graphics card is overheating and is probably creating glitches known as 'artifacts' because of the stress on your rather ancient card. Can you please provide specs and if it's a prebuilt provide the company and model number and maybe I can find a fix for you. Until then try downloading GPU-Z (techpowerup.com/gpuz) and Speed Fan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php), run them while playing Counter-Strike in Window, and report back with the average temperatures from the CPU (in SF) and GPU from the Sensors tab (in GPU-Z). Specs: Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz 2.00 GHz 2.00 GB of Memory(RAM) ^Only Specs I know offhand, tell me if you need more. Link to comment
