Dunno bout all of that, but some people do it, without being pushed, just to show how good they are (never stopped bhoppin.) Or he could be a hyperscrolling cool kid.

Tbh, it kind of looks like you're scripting when you land since you continue to jump even when you're not moving. Like on the parts where you slow down to almost a standstill, most people would rather just stop, then run and get speed that way, rather than strafing back and forth to get speed from almost no speed at all.

 

That's one whole level; if I stop, I get teleported to the beginning which is where the video first started.. I can't entirely stop...
