good point

with that in mind, how does everyone feel about sandwiches?

I love you.

Normality, as Colon defined it, is conformity, which isn't a bad thing, though not always a good thing. You can't just accept anything though, killing/raping/torturing might be normal for one person, but for anyone who's sane, it's a load of crap.

Most kids who think themselves 'different' or 'non-conformist' are typically pretentious dicks. As made apparent in the last few days. For example, Hitler was a pretty eccentric dude. However, some kid who wears a trench coat and listens to obscure death metal and treats himself like Walt Whitman? Pretentious Dick.

I'm pretty laid back and don't much care what people do, it gets bothersome though when people start dragging their lives into places like this and expect... sympathy I guess?

Normal, by definition, has to be defined in the context of society. That's where all the qqbabies get it wrong when they go on about "zomg what is normal anyway"...if you do something most people don't do, it's not a normal behavior.

Goddamnit I hate agreeing with Misanthrope...

Normalcy is determined by the largest group in society, which is nothing more than the collection of many groups.

Since basic Psy101 definitions are abstract and long there is a simple way of putting it into context.

Say life "as it is" is a prism.

Since we see things only when has light reflected on it, our (or our group's) perspective is the angle and direction from which that light contacts the prism. The light can strike the prism at an infinite number of points, and can be viewed at an infinite number of points.

Another way is this: Behavior that isn't adaptive to society is maladaptive, so if you're driving and you think it's a good idea to run every red light and stop sign you see you are being maladaptive, and you are going to be, metaphorically speaking, T-boned by society.

Conformity: Putting one's group's needs ahead of his/her own.

Individualism: Not associating oneself with the goals of others, or simply putting one's needs above those of the rest of the group.

Nothing wrong with either...
