unplugging it, is not a hard reset, there is a little tiny hole in the back of your router, while the router is on, get a pencil/pen and insert it, pressing the button down for 10 seconds will restore it to its original facotry settings, if your router was supplied by the ISP it will have the login infoamtion already hardwired into the router, if not, then you have to reconfigure it with login details provided by your ISP, this is usually found on the welcome letter you recieved when signing up to your ISP, if you cant find it, contact your ISP helpline phone number. you will posible need your credit/debit card which you pay your internet with to verify your account. try that.

lol, fail, for a guess your bro took your laptop down stairs to connect to wireless? so when you took it back up stairs its still connected to wireless for its primary connection, all you need to do is disable the wireless card when your plugged into your router. problem solved, FREE GIFT ME NOW!!!!!

to be honest it doesnt sound like a driver or program error, it will be more like a ram module fucked up, so try and remove 1 stick of ram, restart see how it is, then if it isnt sorted, try removing a different one. sorry, head into wrongly. could be a program error which you recenly download, or it could be a registry issue when installing something or altering it somehow, get a driver cleaner to check+fix it, cant give you a link atm im at work.
