I just want to point out, the massive increase in "donations" are because of the store plugin, they just want to gain more items, they probably don't give a shit about the community goal. Well, after a little research the Petinum D Processors use LGA Socket 775, meaning you can get quite good CPU's, bit outdated compared to your i7's, but still good. CPU - Intel CPU Q8400 Quad Core - £113 I wasn't able to find out what motherboard he uses, but from google pictures I couldn't see any PCI-E or AGP GPU slots, meaning he's stuck with that shitty X1300... If anything, I would tell him to sell it on ebay, might get £40 for it. Then build a new one, I'm sure for $500 I could do you a good build with future upgrades when needed.
