I use AVG, Currently scanning, but what do you mean reformat?

Reformating is basically starting fresh again like its a new computer, (i.e) if you were to have a virus in ur pc and u reformat ur pc meaning erasing ur hard drive, it'll take out the viruses and all you have to do is install everything back again.

A corrupted operating system can be reverted to a clean state by formatting the disk and reinstalling the OS, as a drastic way of combating a software problem or malware infection. Obviously, important files should be backed up beforehand.

have you ever given the thought that people can actually backup their files on their computer? for free no less?

every time i reformat, i just copy the shit i care about (steamapps, music, videos etc) onto my other hard drive and its completely painless. (especially since i keep a folder of installers of programs i actually use somewhat often, including drivers)

But the question is. Does this person want to do a reformat? Does this person know how to reformat? Does this person have the time to reformat? Does this person have permission to reformat (Family PC etc)? Are there alternatives?

Reformatting should be kept as a last measure, a personal DEFCON1 to your own PC. Suggesting a Reformat first isn't always the good answer. It is an answer, but it isn't the best one.

Everytime i go on something having to do with java, the botnet reappears again. So if i don't go on something doing with the javaw.exe program i should be okay i think, but it's what i think.

I'm for doing what Shadow suggested, downloading spyboy search and destroy. If that doesn't work try running a trial of Kaspersky, Avira AntiVir, NOD32.

Like I said before, don't try formatting without the consent of the other users of your computer, and if you've never done it before without help. Keep it as a last measure please. If you don't figure out how to remove the virus and you end up catching it again you'll be forced to format again (if you do decide not to search for anti viruses and solutions)

Good luck :thumb:

your os is on hdd.a and hdd.b (in the case you described and the way i use mine) is basically used as a glorified storage drive, like you just drag and drop files onto it, no os involved. so when i reformat, i copy all important files in to my user folder and then just copy that over to the non os hdd, then reformat, copy back.

tbh I would strongly suggest you stop watching porn or at least go to safe sites...thing dont just appear on a computer....

and if you dont want to reformat..system restore before it got there...Id agree with andree reformating should be a last resort.. there are other ways to tackle this...

I don't think you can get botnets from porn sites. I hear it comes from IRC(Internet Relay Chat) I use it for runescape alot but i don't hear much hacking stories from it. I've recently done alot of scanning, but i'm not sure if its totally gone so i might just reformat it incase.
