Shotguns on TTT have always been unreliable imo. I've had instances where the target and the shooter have been close and stationary, all pellets will hit and shot shown with paintballs, and still not damage/kill reliably. I can use a stock knife and stab someone front and/or sides 4 times against an auto-shotgun equipped opponent for a kill more reliably than using a shotgun most of the time.

 

But, even if everything was perfect with shotguns, that spread is still deceiving and random.
