Self-advertising software in the Overwolf appstore

Just putting this out here as a general warning.

I'd assume that most of you know what overwolf is, but if you don't it's a software that is indeed very handy for gaming with teamspeak. It shows you who's talking in TS in the top left corner, and other small neat features like that.

The thing I'm here to warn you about is this addon named CS:GO stats. It's a small addon that supposedly collects your stats over time and blah blah blah. I've had it installed for a good while, forgetting that I even had it, when suddenly while playing earlier today, the program took control over my game and started pasting advertisements for the addon in the TTT chat. I'd suggest to uninstall the addon if you have it installed or to stay away from it if you see it in the Overwolf appstore. IMO it's pretty darn creepy, and it freaked me the fuck out when it suddenly without any warning took over my PC.

No I haven't downloaded any porn

Did its spam the chat or did it just past it once ? I used it awhile ago for comp with friends and nothing happened ...idk if it was just yours that had this prob.

What happened was that it suddenly froze my all my game input (wasd and mouse) and started opening the chat and pasting "DOWNLOAD THIS APP NOW AT www.example.ex" I stopped it by using alt+tab and restarting my game, but you have to admit that it is scary.

The fuck. What kinda creepy ass RAT type shit are they allowing on Overwolf these days?

Actually, I had used this myself, and it was pretty neat. It had stats from before I used the program and was a handy little confidence boost when my teams stats were higher. It seems like the program has changed from when I used it a few months ago. The only reason I uninstalled the addon, was because I couldn't figure out how to post in chat the stats for the Terrorist team. It only seemed to work for the CT team.

Right, but that isn't my point.

How do they get away with taking over your fucking computer (Remote Administration Tool = RAT) in order to advertise their addon in YOUR CSGO. That's so fucking irresponsible by Overwolf. They need to stay on top of their shit and not allow things like this to run wild on their platform. Whether or not the addon is useful is completely irrelevant to me. I don't happen to use Overwolf, mostly cause I was/am under the impression that it was a really clunky piece of shit but this is honestly so messed up.

Everyone who sees and reads this post report the fuck out of that addon, because not only is that scary but it sets a horrible precedent.

Mate. It's the Internet. You gotta watch what you download. Especially if it's from a third party. I agree that this shouldn't happen, and that it is pretty stupid, however this should fit as a painless lesson that some of us may have forgotten. The Internet is not a safe place. You need to be just as weary as if you were walking the streets of Los Angeles at night.
