you need to check your drivers and either update to the lasted ati, or see if the ones you are using are source compatible. not all are, and many manufactures aren't checking older compatibility like ATI oem is.

many companies make a daily multi vitamin, id suggest grabbing some names off store websites or the generic multivitamin that your local grocery store sells and then googling it for information. I use a daily mens health vitamin, but depending on your age there may be better options. or if your family has medical history of certain issues check into vitamins that help reduce or bolster you against the issue ( ie if your family history includes anemia, get a vitamin with more iron.) worth asking a few questions as well so you know what to tell your doctor if/when you see them if you cannot easily get that sorta thing out of your parents.

if you are new to the utilities game, remember to budget for the expenses and remember to pay them as soon as you get your next paycheck. yes you might be short for the latest zomg must have, but dinking your credit and having no power for days is not a fun thing. also plan to spend about 500 a month on overall costs. that assumes no rent. if there is rent, add that on top. it may be cheaper, but thats about the norm. get used to turning off anything you dont need on. running the heat high or the AC cold is basically bending over for your utility company. Eating out for a meal is about the same cost as buying 3 meals at the grocery store. start cutting coupons or shopping for deals online before you go looking. there are big savings to be had if you look. dont go shopping hungry, you impulse buy and thats bad. if you dont know how to do laundry, or you are unfamiliar with the machines, RTFM (read the fucking manual) or ask for help. overflowing gallons of water and soap is NOT fun. nor is cleaning it up after. if you have to make big purchases, or you have extra money, prioritize them. things that make you better able to do important or other jobs/tasks are better then things that simply are one more thing. for example. 500 bucks on a bed is alot better buy then 500 bucks on a TV, because the bed will get you the rest you need to work/feel better. start looking at things you can do without. ie you may not need the better TV packages, or even need TV, much of what you want to see can be streamed legally off the network sites, or places like hulu or espn360 etc etc. learn to cook. it might not be the best stuff you enjoy eating, but you get good nutrition and it saves money. keep up with whatever stuff you need. delaying now means expenses down the road that might be much higher. lastly buy a good multi vitamin and take it. being sick is bad, but being malnourished because you are eating poorly and living alone means you get sick alot more, or just feel worse.

Your grades are going to be way more important then your PB skills down the road, so just hit the books a bit harder, and if you want a handy trick, if you know a class isnt going to be easy, then take advantage of the after class study times with the teachers (office hours) yeah it may be a waste of time sometimes, but it gives you an edge, and it keeps your parents off your back as much. most of the time they jsut want to see that you are trying to do your best. not what the final results or grades are. goodluck.

windows 7 can use vista drivers if it has to to use devices, so you shouldnt have hardware support issues if your hardware worked in vista. assuming you are using the same 32 or 64 bit vista to windows 7 upgrading.

you do not need a mac to develop an iphone app. you need OSX. macs and pc's use the exact same hardware these days. so buying OSX and simply installing it on any pc with sse3+ on the processor is pretty much a guarantee. so you can simply dual boot your gaming PC to work in OSX for your iphone stuff, then boot to windows for gaming. that saves you about... 1700 pounds thats like 2 tcp's right there.

defragging isnt going to help anything, but the system restore might. try this for me, open taskmanager and watch these two areas at the bottm. first is cpu usage, is it pegged at 100% when you are seeing issues? also next to that is the commit charge, should look like xxx/xxxx is the first number near the number after the slash? if either is yes, you have something that is taking up all of the system resources it can, and i recommend you hold f8 when the computer is restarting to get into safemode and run anti virus/antispyware scans. if neither the cpu usage or the commit charge are near 100% then still scan for viruses/spyware, and if problem persists then system restore.

I am already on it, If we cannot find you a decent deal I have a 3870 sitting around and may have some 8600gts as well depending on whether my brother has done anything with them you can "borrow" til we find you a deal. Ill pm you some options to peruse, we can get you damn good performance (better then my 3870) for sub 100 bucks usually. the 4770 used to be the budget deal of the century the 5750 may have eclipsed that a bit though now as 4770s aren't as plentiful. Gimme a day to dig through options and Ill let you know what is available. just PM me a budget to work with overall if you want to work outside the 60 buck range.

check your manufacturer for any driver updates. you can generally force 7 to use vista drivers (its basically what vista was supposed to be and operates under similar base architecture) you may even have limited luck using xp drivers for 7. just make sure you are using the right platform 32 bit or x86 is NOT compatible with 64 bit or x64 versions

if you have rep messages it means someone gave you reputation, ie thought something you said or did deserved a "virtual cookie" or as some say, buffed your epeen. its the non public way of showing someone or generally people think you are doing something good. , thanking is the public option i added a bar to your rep as a proof of concept of how the system works. higher-ups (any orange name) can also neg rep you to show disapproval, but most just generally call you out in the thread.

try that drivers off the cd, see what you get, if you see no improvement then its time to start shopping for a replacement. I am checking newegg etc for any deals, and seeing if any of my tech buddies haev anything laying around that can get you by that is at least as good as what you have.

hmm well that sounds odd, have you tried using the drivers you have off your video cards cd? or go to the video card companies website to grab the driver instead of using the ati broad ones? your card may be dying as you are stating seeing the lines in bios. but if you can get it to limp along without drivers you still can do most tasks until you can get a better card. and by better i mean as cheap as about 50-60 bucks off newegg.com

if you know for sure its the vid card, then first shut everything down and yank the power cord and then hit the power button to clear the motherboard capacitors of any spare juice. take the vid card out and inspect it for any blow capacitors (the top is bulged or the cap wires have blackened or broken, and if its dusty blow the dust off/wipe the card down with rubbing alcohol. check the heatsink to make sure its firmly attached, if it isnt, then clean the core with rubbing alcohol, then apply a bit of thermal paste and reattach the heatsink. otherwise if its clean put it back in and skip down to the uninstalling your drivers paragraph. id also clean the entire chassis and make sure its dust /debris free as well. unless you are moving the monitor cable to the onboard vid card port, the computer cannot default to run it for safemode, it is simply using the main vid card with the windows stock drivers. which means your card isnt dead, it is having a driver issue or a bad connector(if it has 2 of the same connector on the back of the card (vga/dvi/etc) you may have the card defaulting to the other connector for w/e reason. swap the cable and test it. it's more likely that your computer cannot get the drivers to place nice with your card if it works in safemode, and that the drivers you have may be corrupted/bad. if you boot into safe mode and uninstall them, then try to boot into vista normally it might work. if it does then simply download drivers you know work, and reinstall them. many of the newer ati drivers that support newer cards can "break" older cards unexpectedly. its always worth noting what drivers you have that work, and save them incase you get a bad set later.

with multiboot partitions when the computer starts as long as both hard drives are connected the pc "should" ask you which OS you wish to boot from. if that option isnt there then you should be able to make it create that option by setting both harddrives to be masters on their channels or on separate sata controllers. depending on flavor of linux you may also be able to create a boot manager yourself to use to decide which os to boot to.

you guys/gals are incredibly testy, I told you we were testing the slots for the weekend. if you check PB now its back to 24 slots. if you guys cannot wait 4 days to even post the issues like more spawn points needed( and how many of you know how to add spawn points? quite a few if memory serves) then we could attempt to address issues. as it stands crying about how any major change "ruins everything" just makes it that much harder to want to deal with the 4 gigs of back end files settings and such that comprise PB. its not a "small lightweight server". keeping it running smoothly now comprises about 25% of our server hacking and issues and eats a good day out of the week or more just to maintain. the entire reason we tried extra slots was because we DO NOT have the space, time, nor compunction currently to handle 2 pb servers. adding a few extra slots is not a big deal for a dedi server, adding another server to the dedi along with its support, upgrades and extra maintenance is not something we just snap our fingers and do. Its much harder then most of you think. the TF2 server to just get plug and play with our server mods was 24 hours of work. and that isnt counting the continuous tweaking and adjusting to get some semblance of community interest in it going. while PB's base work is a bit easier, most of the PB files were destroyed Sunday in an "incident" that we are still recovering from. rebuilding another server on top of our efforts to secure what we have is not a priority. Ive been here since way way back and remember the literal horror of multi PB servers, half the forum was ZOMG hate jihad, the other part was zomg pants on head CT's, make more or less rules, then we had the leave everything alone and pb is fine how it is group. pretty much exactly what we have now. but more annoying and even less oversight and harder infrastructure to modify/maintain. when PB became less popular and you all called to expand the community into gungame, tf2, another shot at Reg CS, the extra escapes etc, that was the lowest performing server, and it caused the highest complaint to server ratio and bans. (which back then was handled separately and quite honestly tripled the server workload.) We didnt have globalbans and admins sorted as easily as we did now. everything was hand done. so servers causing ridiculous bitching were simply removed. If you want a second PB server with a second set of mods as well as servers we are in alpha testing like mnote's sigil mod, then things are going to have to be flexible. And with everything the higherups saw with community response from taking servers down,which were damn near empty most of the time, (napalm, GG, top ten escape etc) no one feels like wasting time on stuff most people decry as useless or not what you want. If you all cannot come to agreements on adjusting the servers we have and playing on them, then why should any additional servers open that you also cannot agree on. Without severely compromising the dedi's (or just lagging out the most popular servers to make more space(a non option), and we cannot easily trim servers from our already pruned list, we are limited on what we can expand into. We as a community cannot afford the third dedicated on a monthly basis, so short of cutting servers like trikz and surf (the lowest asked for servers excluding Reg CS), we dont have the headroom for another PB server. if we do not install rally race again we may have some space, but that is a popular mod as well so again expanding isnt that easy. no offense but PB servers just arent there as the next thing to try, so many of you spoke highly of mnote's mod, so that is next, If/when we sort that maybe another stab at pb, but I will be honest, If you all as PB players cannot agree to work out what is and isnt there, then I really dont see how any higherup is going to want to deal with the server long term. We cant make everyone happy, and PB is one of the most divisive servers we have. no one is almost ever in agreement, and happy with how we setup pb.
