my guess is that its bad and you should get it replaced (because an x1300 doesnt draw power for shit for 1, and even if you had incorrect drivers your monitor would still get a signal)

if you ever get choke like that or some really off in/out then its your rates. my guess is you just had shitty rates and a server like that that is taxing (because of a lot of people close together) is what brings the problem to a head.

i... i guess you can use command-line settings... why not instead check to make sure your config file isn't read-only when you set the res? or better yet set the res in the config (cant remember if that's possible or not)

update your graphics drivers, but for this specific case, you need to go into the L4D settings as well and disable multi-core rendering. When they threaded this game they didn't test it well or something, and so me, and several other people I know as well as hundreds across the internet have to disable it. (If it doesn't work you may have to do what my friend does which is more drastic, which is to start L4D, and then minimize the game, and ctrl alt del, right click left4dead.exe -> set affinity -> uncheck CPU 1)

why wouldn't they? unless you're saying the pings didnt change I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at. When you pay for internet are you paying for local download speed? no. it just takes longer the farther away it is to send and receive, you'll still pull more or less the same often (unless the fiber lines used to cross the ocean and/or the server sucks, among other things).

I normally max it out on things like steam, 1.1 MB/s, and my actual upload is right at 1 Mb

I got it satan, thats why my first reply was like "tough it out". my job last semester had me staying up for nearly 40 hours every few friday/saturdays (needless to say why it WAS my job)

personally, showers wake me up in the morning, alot better than the drink crap.
