if you have a router, most routers these days double as hardware firewalls. if this is the case you must "forward" the correct ports for the game. i'm not sure what it is for this stupid game, but a quick google of "ports required for WoW or world of warcraft" should tell you. and to "forward" the ports, you must get into your router, which is done in different ways depending on the router. my suggestion here is to also google something like "how to use (brand of router) router"

thats not just source engine broseph.. thats any game.. thats how a computer works. Of course the cpu limits the video card, there's a bottle neck caused by the speed of the CPU compared to the much faster, more specialized speed of the GPU. and an HDD could easily slow you down, but thatd be if it was bad/old and had long seek times.

delete your clientregistry.blob file, restart steam. if it still doesnt work after that, have you tried disabling UAC?

fix'd. nothing wrong with a laptop (especially one that weighs > 3 lbs like mine).. just dont expect to hard core game on one if you dislike spending 1-2k every 3 years

ill go with virus etc, because unless you disable it somehow yourself (not saying its not possible, but why would you?) its not going to not work
