To all the vista haters: Vista SP2 is pretty much XP sp3 par or atleast close enough, quit acting like Vista is the game problem, it's generally hardware. I will agree Vista is still buggy though. As for your PC, you just need a new GPU and everything will work fine. edit: i ran win7 64 bit with 2gb, worked perfectly fine guys. (reason for 64 bit was i originally was gonna get another 2gb but never did :X)

iirc, pentium is the same socket as the Core 2's? If not, time to upgrade your motherboard. As for a graphics card you should just get a 9800GTX/GTS 250 like people recommend, that's the budget GPU pretty much, and it should last a good time.

Meh, you do not need to upgrade any time soon, you need to wait for dx11 to rollout to get one of those cards. As for a 9600GT i run a 8800GT and everything works fine for me so you should be about the same. Honestly a GTS 250 is about the same as a 9800 GTX Or was it a GTS 260?

Althought im apparently a troll, this just recently happened to a friend of mine, he tipped over his 360 and when he turned it on, it was RRODing with the same error message, so I unplugged the 360's video cords, and turned it on, turned on perfectly fine so I plugged it in, RROD'd again. Obviously something wrong with the GPU, doubt there is a fix for it either :X, except of course replacing. edit: googled it and you have a 3yr extended warranty for the e74 error, good luck on shipping costs.

Oh yes, two of my friends also run both a 9500GT and a 9600GT (which you can find on the cheapo), and they do a perfect job of running source, dunno about anything else.

Don't bother buying a 9800GT that is just plain stupid, get the 260 GTS at least. If you're on a budget just get a damn 8800GT, because the 9 series is just a buffed up 8 series that is barely buffed up (i run a 8800gt, works perfectly fine on gta4, and all source) As for a processor, I run a OC'd Q6600 at 3.2GHz (its awesome), but if you're only playing source save some $$$ and buy a core 2 duo instead of a quad, quads are a waste of cash unless you're compiling shit or hosting a server :/
