are netbooks any good? for just surfing the internet and using office 2007?

I have one of those 1st gen HP minis, I picked it up for $225 on sale, and for surfing the net, and office they are pretty good. I would suggest upgrading the ram, but it is not needed. Newer ones are better because of the new cpus being used. Mine is a single core, 1.6 atom, but the newer ones are hyper threaded, pretty much dual core. And some today come with an Nvidia ION, instead of Intels graphics option. You can play CS1.6 on most.

If you're buying one for school, a netbook is a great option. Many of my friends have them for typing out notes, doing assignments, you name it. Depends on the model, but they're really good for using Microsoft Office, etc.

I got the aspire one. the old 8.2 inches version and it does the job for browsing and taking notes... Im actually typing this of of it..

 

The newer ones are better... Im think of swiping the HDD and installing linux on mine though..less ram usage and for what I do itd work

i've got an asus 1000he. i love going to class for a week and not charging it.

 

but yeah, if you're on the market for a netbook, try to get one with the nvidia ion on it. it'll make a much better experience overall, but a bit more pricey obviously.

i know its not i just got to looking at it and its kinda cool and im prolly just gonna buy the HP CQ1 something cant remember its a 15.9in Screen and 50$ more than the cheapest netbook i found at walmart so...
