And, because of this, like you said they restructured. And unless we find a new material that can dissipate heat vastly more efficiently, we will continue adding more and more cores. And as for the "why a new 1.8GHz CPU will outperform a P4", that has to do with more than just the restructure, you have to remember that even if software isn't threaded, the cores can work together, nearly effectively adding their processing power.

have you tried lowering the resolution? - Just a thought. I always keep an eye on my CPU usage during a game too, because if the CPU gets overloaded (too many enemies or w/e on the screen at the same time) will force the fps to choke to all hell.

This is the kind of attitude i figured you had and why I am trying to avoid harming your ego or anything (don't bother saying your ego is untouchable, because honestly, i don't give a fuck). I can't think of anything to say to this post that wouldn't end in me outright making you feel more sorry for yourself or the like, so I won't. The one thing I will talk about though is that you need to find things that are more brag-worthy. (This constitutes as things a person would be impressed by/care about.) The only thing in that list that was impressive to me was the computer, but I cannot even remotely guess your age by your posts, so I could assume that was merely 1-3 years ago, which would not be saying much since nowadays "building a computer" consists of ~10-20 screws and plugging in color-coded, impossible to plug in the wrong direction, auto configuring wires.

zip ties. zip ties. zip ties. My case had a few random holes for no apparent reason that i was able to thread the massive majority of my sata cables through and down to the HDDs. The things that arent hideable like that, like the hdd -> mobo sata etc., i zip tied and taped to the bottom of the case. You cant even see them because they are hidden beside the lip of the aluminum. Pretty much, when i gaze lovingly at the window of my case i only see 2 wires, 1 for ambient temp measuring, and the 2nd power to my gfx card (i was even able to hide most of the pci-e cable that came from the psu) but like pot said, its not really important if it doesnt reduce airflow, but im severely anal when it comes to this hobby o' mine. If it bothers you that much and you cant do much with the mobo tray, get a new psu with longer cables, or go modular.
