Honestly don't apologize to me. The funny thing is that we gave the captains so much freedom to not only schedule their own matches but to feel free to contact us with issues. With the exception of my own team members I never heard one thing from anyone until now. So it's great and all that you guys have these ideas and issues but there really isn't anyone to blame but the captains themselves. Could we have done things better? Sure. I'm not saying that but when I say that BOTH CAPTAINS HAVE TO AGREE TO SUBS like 10 times and yet people still bitch about the situation don't apologize to us.
As for the rushing into the scrim tournament I have to kinda laugh at that. We set this up for like a month and people kept asking "when are we gonna start?" "is this even really going to happen?". The thread was open for suggestions for like 2 weeks and nobody really provided a ton of feedback except on how to structure teams. Once again we were open to any suggestions. I tried to make the round robin fun by allowing other subs that joined late but restricting them for the actual tournament, yet people complained about subs when all you had to do was just say no they couldn't play.
What's apparent is that it seems to be my team, which I stepped away from mainly after a few days because I knew that during June I was going be slammed at work, which I was. Now my computer is broken so I have been away for a few days because of that while I wait on the parts to come in. But from what I see my team lacked significant communication. In fact I only heard from about 2 of them about matches and the one I did show up we somehow got booted off and my other teammates didn't even know I was coming even though I told a member that I was.
Yeah, people are busy and it's hard to schedule matches but when we give you 2 WEEKS to play 2 maps (less then 2 hours of your time) and yet only 1 set of matches gets completed then I don't know what to tell you guys. We didn't give you specific times because of time zone issues and peoples personel schedules. In fact we were open to adjusting anything for you guys, yet I have to come on here and see people listing out complaints of things that the captains should be taking care of themselves.
There was also a thread about racism in scrim: http://www.steam-gamers.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61479 in which I thought it was pretty clear that racism wasn't allowed. Obviously if you want it to stop then just report them and they'll be banned. I can't sit around and babysit the scrim server looking for racism when 90% of the actual participants are admins themselves or clearly know that it isn't allowed in any SG server with the exception of TS.
As for the start date, again nobody approached us before this began saying please start it later on. So saying that we "rushed it" and should have started later would have been great to know BEFORE we began. Not to mention that we gave a weeks time on a regular basis and on one occassion we gave 2 weeks to complete matches. That's half a month for those keeping track at home, which to me is a substantial amount of time and in no way can I see that as "rushed." Spiked created a couple reminders and even I made a post about getting matches in this week and it was laughed off but I knew that getting matches in might be a struggle sometimes.
So anyways, yes this wasn't going to be perfect, nor did I ever expect it to. I knew there were going to be issues and there clearly are but the issues outlined are out of my control. As I said from the beginning this isn't ESEA yet people still treated it as such. I can't control latency, I'm not in charge of the server, I can't babysit racist people in the server, I can't make your teammtes attend matches, etc. But what I can do is fix problems that you approach Spiked or myself with. We always left the opportunity open yet nobody seemed to seize it until a group mentality was created the last couple of days with people just dropping out and comlpaining behind closed doors. Maybe you guys approached Spiked and I just didn't know but I rarely heard much from anyone.
Just to reiterate: Captains should have been in charge of scheduling which was left wide open for obvious reasons, players using racism should be banned and warned because every team has at least 1 admin that knows how to make a complaint, and captains were in charge of agreeing to substitutions and matches and such. I really don't know how many more times I could have said all that but apparently it wasn't enough.
So from this point on I'm going to remove myself from this scrim event in its entirety. Between the constant bitching about substitutions and people joining late to the scheduling issues that were left wide open for ease of the teams it really just isn't worth it anymore. Honestly, Spiked put a hell of a lot more effort into this than me and I really apologize to him for this not turning out. People really took for granted the amount of work he put in to this and its a shame. So @SpikedRocker, thank you for the work you've done with this, even though we didn't seem to make it too far it wouldn't have reached this point without your contributions.
