  3. I'm going off on a bit of a tangent from the original purpose of this thread, but I just wanted to give a bit of backstory so this didn't seem completely random. Banning a Player for Leaving the Server The point of this thread, 'unfair banning' is specifically mentioning something that I have seen a few admins do, varying across rank. As you can guess by the title, it's about admins issuing bans for players because they leave the server after committing some sort of deviation from the rules. Let me run two situations by you for example: Situation A) A player joins and mass-free kills a bunch of people and mic-spamming "I wish I was in Dixie" while typing racial slurs. He disconnects and leaves the server before an admin can issue a punishment. This situation is okay to issue a ban after they leave. They committed violations that would have gotten them banned anyways, and they were obviously just intentionally trying to grief. Situation B) A player is on CT on prison break, and headshots a T for disobeying a rule. The admin and the CT are arguing about the justification of the kill after the CT dies. The admin sets the CT to be slayed on the next round because he thinks the CT should have given a warning shot. The player disconnects right after being set to slay because he doesn't want to wait another 5-10 minutes to be respawned and play. This situation is not okay to ban the player for leaving. He wouldn't have gotten an immediate ban for this situation anyways. The point in admins using their powers against players is to deconflict a situation going on. The situation is entirely deconflicted at this point, and there is no reason (other than spite) to go onto sourcebans afterwards and ban him. As I said earlier, we choose the wording in our rules very carefully. If an admin deviates from this standard set of rules (because there are random situations that don't fall under anything we have listed), he is expected to use common sense and good judgement. If their version of common sense and good judgment is frowned upon by all 12 higher ups, well it makes us question their judgment. We could go over hypothetical situations all day and night, but I encourage all admins and players to READ the actual rules we have listed. This is not to encourage people to skirt around any rules intentionally, it's meant so you guys essentially know when you're being banned unfairly or when an admin is enforcing something they shouldn't be enforcing. If you intentionally skirt around the rules to make an admin's job harder, we will probably punish you out of principle. I'm aware that this has happened in the past, but it stops now. This has been discussed among the AO's+, and we have unanimously agreed that banning players for leaving the server is only legitimate in certain situations, mainly extreme ones where the player is intentionally trying to grief. If there are any questions, please let us know, but if I see a million hypothetical situations, I'm not going to keep entertaining them all, as that could go on endlessly. As an admin, if you are in a situation where you truly do not know how to handle it, I would recommend you messaging a higher up immediately. If you cannot get in touch with one, not taking action (or taking minimal action like a 5 minute or hour ban) may be the best way to go, and wait for further clarification. And lastly, "Avoiding punishments" = people who are trying to disconnect and reconnect to avoid a slay, a mute, etc. Not the same thing this topic, and that is okay to punish for seeing as it is an actual ban reason. To make a custom channel, join the “Join to Create” voice channel and it should move you to a separate channel which you can edit in the #commands channel. Do not spam (includes voice, text, and chains at the discretion of administrators). Do not post, stream, or discuss any material that violates the law. Do not spam nor create tickets or suggestions without a proper reason. Do not advertise links or images relating to other communities, discord servers, or websites with malicious intent. (YouTube links, Reddit links, etc. are fine) Do not disrespect members and staff alike. Do not make any DDoS, Dox, or Death threats. Do not post phishing links. Do not evade punishment or use alternate accounts. Keep things on-topic and in their respective channel (ex. asking about Jailbreak in the MiniGames chat). Strictly no harassment. This includes harassment through direct messages. Strictly no racism. DISCORD PRIVILEGES If you would like the DJ role to play music, ask an IAO or higher to give it to you.

To become an admin at Steam-Gamers, you must be a frequent player on our servers, active on our forums, and well known by other community members. In order to apply for admin, follow these steps. You must have a forum account. Register here if you don't have one. Read and agree to the Admin Rules (link on the left navigation). Show the community that you possess good qualities of an admin. Submit an admin application with decent effort. After that, members will have the opportunity to vote on your application which will take place for roughly 1 week. As long as you have no recent bans, no one has anything negative to say about you, and you receive generally positive and constructive feedback based on members' experiences with you, you will likely get approved. Once a Director posts "Approved", they will contact you and your admin will be set up on all of our gaming servers. APPLY HERE For Members Responding to Admin Applications or Posting on Others Keep your posts on topic and polite. Off topic worthless posts will be deleted. You CANNOT simply post "^ this" if you agree with another assessment. Please write your own response to explain why you are voting the way you are. You should provide a reason why the person applying should have admin. Provide specific examples of why the person would be a good admin, such as past experiences and how the person has been helpful as a regular player. If you are voting reapply, try to give feedback on what they should improve on in addition to your reasons. If an application has been approved, you can feel free to post congratulations or offer advice as an admin if you wish. Some things to keep in mind when supporting applications Is this person active in the servers, and can they remain active on the forum? Does this person play by the rules, and can they enforce them? Does this person have a ban within the last 2 months or so? Does this person get along with other players/admins? If I don't see this person, is it just because we always play on different servers? If you have information about someone lying in their application, it's best to PM an IAO or a Director so it can be dealt with. "Abstain" and "Reapply" Votes Abstain means that you're not voting yes, no, OR reapply. You are simply stating that your vote should not count. You should abstain from voting if you don't know the person applying and/or don't have a solid opinion on their application. If you don't play on the same servers they play on, you should probably abstain in most cases. Encouraging more activity on different servers is fine, but should not be a solid reason to vote "reapply" or "no". Voting reapply means that you know the applicant and think they have potential to be a good admin, but needs time to improve on something like activity, attitude, etc. DO NOT vote reapply if you don't even know or play with the applicant If you do not know the applicant, you should abstain from voting so they still has a fair chance at admin
  12. When appealing a ban, please make sure you include the following in your appeal. In-game Name Steam ID (Format: STEAM_1:0:12345) Length of ban Admin who banned you Detail of your ban Why you feel you should be unbanned Add as much information as you possibly can. To see which admin banned you, for what, and for https://www.steam-gamers.net/sourcebans/. Do not bother blaming a friend or relative because you are responsible for your own account. Do not use Shoutbox to discuss your ban as it is not used for ban discussions. Leave that in your appeal thread because shoutbox is used for small talks among our players. Click here to appeal. An IAO or Director will judge your case and decide whether you deserve to be unbanned.
  13. When submitting a report, please make sure you include the following in your complaint. In-game Name of the offender SteamID of the offender typed out (in text) Screenshot of the offender's Steam ID (Including yours) Server and map the incident happened on What time did it happen (closest hour is fine) Provide screenshots or demos to prove the player was breaking rules Add as much information as you possibly can. That will help ensure the ban is justified. Proof can be uploaded as an attachment (recommended) or on a third-party site such as Imgur for images or File Dropper for demos. TIP: How to install & use recording software: Click Here Click here to post your complaint and a CA+ will judge whether the player will be banned.
  14. If you are not banned but have proof of an admin abusing his powers, please make sure you include the following in your admin complaint. Name of admin Steam ID of admin Type of proof attached Summary of what happened Add as much information as you possibly can and check your complaint occasionally for questions. Proof can be uploaded as an attachment (recommended) or on a third-party site such as Imgur for images or File Dropper for demos. If you have no proof of an admin abusing but have concerns, please PM an IAO or Director. Click here to post your complaint. An IAO or Director will judge whether the admin will be punished or not.
  15. This is a list of rules all of our admins must follow. If an admin is caught breaking any of these rules they are susceptible to punishment. Admins cannot use their powers to gain an advantage or negatively interfere with game play. Admins that use their admin powers must tag up with [SG] and their forum name. Admins cannot change or extend the map without a vote that passes with 75% yes or more. Admins can only use all chat for making announcements or warning players. Admins may not ban themselves or punish other admins for any reason. Contact IAO+ or submit an admin complaint. Admins will lead by example and be as polite and courteous as possible. Admins are not exempt from server rules and will be punished accordingly if caught breaking them. Admins are not to make up or enforce any rules not listed in the rules for the respective server.
