I mean, I couldn't really think of any reasons why a player communicating would need to hold down their mic for 10 seconds. Most callouts you only need like 2-3 seconds. 10 seconds is a lot of time to be holding down a mic. The issue isn't really admining cause most of the time you can't really constitute someone talking on their mic for 10+ seconds as micspam until it gets really out of hand. It just kinda hurts the communicating aspect of TTT when people are talking for too long while players try to give callouts. I do agree some admins are using silent rounds way too frequently. I’m going to try and discourage other admins from doing them. I was just interested to see if it could at least be tried out. Seemed like it would have more a positive impact on the server in my head, but I understand the opposition. If it had too many negative consequences then I'd understand it being removed, but it might be worth a shot to at least try it. If you could give some instances where a player would need to hold down their mic for an extended period of time I would possibly change my mind.

I understand rulebreakers need to be punished @Gentoo and this could be seen as a lazy way to not do the job myself (which wasn’t my intention). Obviously admins should be enforcing these rules and I always do my best to take appropriate action against them. This was more meant to target the players not breaking the rules but still adding to the cancer. A lot of times players just tend to talk and hog up the mic more than they necessarily need to. It would be cool if we could impose this restriction on alive players only so there is more of an emphasis on communication and less of “let’s just use our mic a bunch constantly and ruin the round for everyone trying to communicate and play the game”. When enough players just start talking and talking for a good amount of time it makes communicating impossible. Not really trying to restrict anyone’s speech either. Who says you need to hold down your mic for 10 seconds to have a conversation with someone? I just don’t want people constantly holding down their mics which can drown out valuable information being called out. This wouldn’t solve the problem completely but hopefully it could contribute in some way.
-
Problem with this is that people who want to make a callout might not be able to if other people are talking about random shit. It isn't like we have a rule that says voice chat can only be used for round related purposes. Traitors might also try to hog up mic usage so innocents/detectives couldn't call out KOS's and such.

Yeah, I noticed a LOT of admins are starting to use silent rounds too often. I only use them when players are constantly screaming into their mics to the point where communicating is near impossible. Players who hold down their mic wasn't the only reason I had to make this thread. I think this plugin could do several things: 1) It could stop players from talking way too long in general. We've all had a time where we were using our mic and talked longer than we thought we were. People practically commentate their round and it can get really annoying. You don't need 10+ seconds to get your KOS's/suspicions/warnings/other communications out. 2) Like you mentioned, it would help prevent people from holding down their mic and were unaware they were doing so. 3) I rarely see this happen on TTT, but it could also possibly prevent people from micspamming with a soundboard to an extent. Any song/audio clip over 10 seconds would get cut off easily Yes, players could still get around it. Players with bad intentions could get around a lot without admin intervention. I made this suggestion more for dealing with the people who are unintentionally making voice chat cancer. If a player is actually taking the effort to count their 10 seconds, let go of their mic, and then continuing to micspam then I find that to be just sad lol. I have no coding experience and very little plugin knowledge, but I swear I've seen similar if not identical stuff like this on other servers. I could try to look up any existing plugins when I have the time. I'm fine if the AT feels like their are other priorities for the server, just wanted to put the suggestion out there.

I think it would be helpful to have a plugin that automatically mutes players who hold their mics down for 10+ seconds. Once a player is muted, they have a 5 second mic cooldown before they're allowed to use mic again. Voice chat has been kinda been a little crazy recently whenever the server is full. I understand us admins can mute players, but when the server is really crowded it can be hard to distinguish people who are using their mics excessively from those who are actually playing the game. I also know we can do silent rounds but a lot of the time majority of players are talking about the round when voice chat is being overflowed and it doesn't feel justified to mute them too. Plus silent rounds give a huge advantage to traitors and the round pretty much just becomes boring because there are limited comms and traitors just run around killing people. Silent rounds simply aren't good TTT rounds. Neither of those options are avaliable when admins aren't on anyways. TTT heavily relies on communication and I think when voice chat is chaotic the quality of the round is also chaotic. Adding a feature like this would help fix voice chat being overflowed and make the rounds flow better. I'm sure there is a plugin out there already and this (hopefully) could easily be implemented.

TeamSpeak
topic replied to Kieran's Caution in Announcements
I don't know about you guys, but I hate teamspeak. Props to you guys on listening to the opinion of the people and finding a middle ground where both sides are content. -
I forgot to take bias into account. Seems logical, I support.

Isn’t one of the purposes of admin applications to help give advice/feedback to the player? If it wasn’t then we would just be writing support and reapply. Edit before you reply - yeah yeah I get that you have to wait once getting your advice. I just think the whole point of the system is to get your feedback, prove you’ve used it over X amount of weeks/months, then reapply. I see no harm in adding this but at the same time I wouldn’t justify it with that one reason.

Yeah, that would work. Anything to make it effective in what it's supposed to do and not allow people to screw with it. -
[Rejected] [TTT] Call Detective
topic replied to Kieran's fozilla mirefox in Completed
I like this idea a lot. Not sure how easily it could be implemented but I’d be down to have it on the server. My only concern is people spamming it and overwhelming detectives. There should be a limit to how many bodies you can do this to or a cool down time between calls. -
[Reviewing] President in Terrorist Town
topic replied to Kieran's Kieran in Event Suggestions & Feedback
I did read the posts by the ATs before I made this. This wouldn’t add the chaos they were talking about because it is just a buffed up detective (no new roles with new objectives) I don’t know much about coding so I threw it out there. I didn’t know how easy it was just to buff up a detective a bit because jailbreak did it with a guard. -
[Reviewing] President in Terrorist Town
topic replied to Kieran's Kieran in Event Suggestions & Feedback
Ehhh, I mean jihads take a while to activate so it isn't like the President would die instantly to one. Also, a lot of the time jihads are countered with ease so this wouldn't be too much of an issue. Also, chances are the President would be put into cover to hide and try and survive. If not, there would be a lot of people around him and might be hard to get a clear shot. Yes. Nah, that would be completely killing the idea of TTT. I tried to keep it as close as possible to the gamemode while also making it something new and refreshing. The TTT AT's emphasized that they aren't trying to completely change the gamemode. That's what I figured. Maybe if this event was held occasionally (not just a one time thing) it might be worth it to see if you can get a bunch of players on. I just think something needs to happen to try to spice up TTT every once in a while. Maybe not, you're an ex-AM and probably know more about that stuff than me lol. If AT's really don't want to add a role I understand. I put it out there cause it was worth a shot. I felt like they were more concerned with how it would ruin the gamemode so I tried to work around around that. If they ever decide to change their mind and think it might be worth the coding one day at least the idea is out there. -
[Reviewing] President in Terrorist Town
Kieran posted a topic in Event Suggestions & Feedback
Obviously TTT has been lacking events because it is the hardest server to create an event on. A lot of event ideas don't work because it ruins the fundamentals of the gamemode. I've been trying to come up with ideas for events for a while now in order to hopefully get an event to happen sometime because it would really be cool to have a TTT event in the near future. This idea is just a rough idea of a possible event, has many flaws, and probably needs some revisions to actually happen. I'm putting it out here now so a) I can see if anyone has ideas to make the event more feasible and b) hopefully motivate others to start brainstorming other TTT ideas. Also, the basic event idea was taken from the "Protect the President" event that Jailbreak held multiple times. I just focused on trying to make some changes to help it accommodate the complicated TTT gamemode. Creds to whoever came up with that idea. Anyways, onto the event... President in Terrorist Town! Objective: The President is making a stop in Terrorist Town! The main objective of TTT remains the same (traitors kill innocents/detectives, innocent/detectives survive or kill traitors); however, there is an additional goal of protecting/killing the President. All innocents and detectives must work together to keep the President alive for the entirety of the round by fighting off the traitors. The additional goal of the traitors is to kill the President. How it would work: One detective is selected to be the President. Their name is announced in the chat once the round starts. [TTT] Kieran has been selected as the PRESIDENT Their color would still be blue so they don't stick out too much, however they do have the tag "PRESIDENT" instead of "DETECTIVE". The President will have the following features: - 300 health (this can be adjusted as needed, just it has to be enough so he isn't easily killed) - Kevlar and helmet - Free medi-shot (could be multiple) - All other Detective perks (access to the menu, M4A1-S off of spawn, etc.) The round would continue until either side won like normal TTT. One important difference that I made to the gamemode is that if the President dies, the round still goes on. If I didn't make it like this, then a) it wouldn't really be TTT anymore, b) it would be really short rounds, and c) players could easily troll. Jailbreak is different because it isn't as easy to get the resources to kill the President, but on TTT almost everyone has a weapon by round start. The whole event is more of a "secondary goal" but still interesting and fun enough so players would focus on the President. If the President survives until the innocents/detectives win, then all innocents/detectives get a bonus reward. If the President is killed by a traitor, then all traitors get a bonus reward. I'm still not sure what the reward would be. It could be a karma bonus (more realistic), it could be points (less realistic), or it could just be bragging rights. I think there has to be some form of incentive that would motivate players to participate and take the event seriously, so if anyone has ideas for this please suggest it. There should obviously be a point multiplier or something like that to get more players on during the event. SIDE NOTE: Gold knife would have to be disabled for this event. It would be too overpowered to have a one shot weapon that is practically a guaranteed kill if you know how to click a mouse. However, the AWP is totally fair game if you can hit the headshot. Reasons this event could work/be fun 1. You are still playing TTT. The fundamentals of the game are still the same with two sides trying to eliminate each other. Although the President is new, he really is just a buffed up detective who doesn't complicate the game too much. If the President dies, you just continue with normal TTT. 2. Players would have to work together. Traitors could plot out attacks in terrorist chat to kill the President. Innocents and detectives would have to convey information about where the President is located and potential threats. 3. There are very interesting strategies traitors could try to use in order to kill the President. You could try and do some coordinated attacks to catch the Presidents and his protectors off guard from multiple positions. You could stay back with an AWP and try to snipe him down (possibly hit the lucky headshot). You could even go behind enemy lines and try to blow him up with a jihad. Potential problems with the event 1. Troll players Obviously, one of the biggest concerns is troll players will intentionally try to ruin the event by running up and shooting the President as an innocent/detective. Potential Solution: Having a lot of admins online to handle trolls accordingly. This would likely already be the case because TTT events are so rare that a lot of admins would probably show for the occasion. I'd certainly do my best to come if this event were to become a reality. 2. Too unbalanced I doubt this event would be perfectly balanced how it is and it might be a very unfair gamemode for either side. Potential Solution: Giving/taking away features of the President, or removing additional factors in the game. I put the Detective at 300 HP so very few weapons could kill him in one shot. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate amount of health to keep him at, so if you feel like there is another number more appropriate for him let me know. You could also take away stuff from the traitors (like AWPs) if the traitors have too much of an advantage. 3. Might be too complicated to implement This event has a lot of demands (creating a new "role" with additional features, removing some features in the game, adding some, etc.) that might require too much effort to be done. I also don't have a potential solution for this one. This side of the game is not my expertise so I am unsure if this could even happen or if it would be too complicated. 4. The FBI might hunt me down I'm technically "suggesting" to kill the President with snipers and jihads. The FBI is probably on my ass already. Potential Solution: I flee to Mexico. ------------------------ Anyways, feel free to leave suggestions and criticisms. This isn't a flawless idea and definitely would need changes before it could be added. I also encourage everyone to try and brainstorm some other TTT ideas and hopefully a few can actually happen in the near future. -
[Answered] n word while singing
topic replied to Kieran's Noctember in SG Info & Discussion
You can't just change the lyrics in a song to make the use of the n-word offensive or racist; the context/meaning in the song will always stay the same. However, it is inevitable if we allowed this then EVENTUALLY someone would be singing along and just "mess up" the lyrics and just throw in a "I hate..." before the word or something stupid like that. There is just no need for this since it could easily be exploited and a lot of burdens will use it to skirt the racism rule. Also, I agree with what Dominic said. You can just easily avoid saying it so it isn't really a problem. -
Rip birds but I was right it would be a close one.

Even if we lose, it isn’t going to be 48-7. This is a different eagles team who found their stride and it’ll be closer than you think. I expect it to be high scoring though cause our secondary sucks and I’m sure Nick Foles will be able to score against the Saints defense too. Also, you can’t argue were only here cause of the kids foot. If you actually watched the game you would know the Eagles put up a very good game defensively and did decently well against the best defense in the league. Not to mention we had to go through two playoff teams (Rams and Texans) to even get into the playoffs. We earned our spot in New Orleans.

[Rejected] TTT innocent credits menu suggestion
topic replied to Kieran's Weeb Juice in Completed
I think proving people as innocents really should be left up to detectives, t testers, and witnesses. A lot of the game relies on taking people's word for something and just taking a gamble and trusting someone. I think this would be too drastic of a change and throw off the balance of the game. I'd be fine with the medishot and kevlar being incorporated (probably medishot over kevlar) as long as it was clear to players now that innocents could have access to these things so they shouldn't kill for it. -
[Rejected] TTT innocent credits menu suggestion
topic replied to Kieran's Weeb Juice in Completed
Health shot and Kevlar maybe, definitely not taser. Everyone would just buy a taser to prove that they're innocent. Even if there is a way to work around that, it wouldn't be logical for someone to be able to prove someone else when they haven't been proven yet. -
