I've used both, but I currently use Chrome. It's seamless design for other Google applications is quick and convenient. Also, jumping on another fresh PC and being to log in and have all your bookmarks, add-ons, ect. load up in seconds is nice too. There are a lot of supported add-ons made for Chrome that make my day-to-day geeking easier. For tab grouping, there is an add-on for that as well, but for the RAM issue, I don't think there is a fix. Firefox was my buddy, and I still use it from time to time, but I mostly use Chrome. There are always rulebreakers, there is no "correct" time to avoid them. The servers are most populated on the weekends, usually in the eveningtime.
